YO GEORGIANS! :)

Yeah Buster is a big scardy cat. He will run up to you barking the. When you talk to him he runs away with his tail between his legs. Hahaha.
That is exactly what roko would do! But when it came to chickens he was a cold blooded killer! And was mean to our kids. But to anyone else he was just a loving lap dog.

Its a homemade cooler bator. Dry method, for now. We have a fan and are trying to find a light that can go in so it is under the eggs as I have seen in the photos on here.
I used a cooler-bator like that on, I just took a lamp kit and cut a hole just big enough for the base of the light fixture to fit snugly in about mid high on one of the sides. The only thing is since I didn't have a thermostat hooked up I never had any hatch without being assisted and eventually dieing anyways. My recommendation would be to install a water thermostat to your light source. What temp does your incubator hold?

It has been holding steady at 102 but tends to drop a little at night as we turn down the heat when we go to bed. I have learned to compensate for that.

We got our only child Weasel a friend. Meet Snow Flake (it was snowing while we were there) and RIR pullet. And less than an hour after we get home my little girl who was in the ER on Friday for a gashed up chin, proceeds to some how pull the whole brooder off of the table and onto her. Luckily the only thing that didn't make it was the light bulb. So I am now adding that to my grocery list because a 40 watt doesn't seem to be keeping them warm enough so for now there is a heating pad under the brooder to help.

Well our 4 year old woke us up at 4 puking and I checked on the little fuzzy and it didn't make it. The other little guy is doing fine, just lonely.
Sorry your baby didn't make it. I would suggest, and I heard this from Dr. Peter Brown a Vet, to you make sure your hens are well nourished and have extra supplements in their water like electrolytes, vitamins, etc. They use a lot of energy and deplete their calcium and other vitamins to make the shell. When this happens the chicks come out weaker. When you assist a chick that is already weak you need to make sure you give that chick some Poly-Vi-Sol Children's vitamins WITHOUT IRON along with Vit E and Selenium 2-3 times a day. Just FYI and I'm learning all this too!

I did read about that stuff, I just didn't have any that didn't have iron. I gave it some save a chick but it still didn't make it.

Get the 22 and sit outside you may see it and quit its murderous actions haha. It's what I would do.
Read another forum on BYC, the member had a great idea about using a paint gun. I live just on the outskirts of the city limit, and can't fire a gun in town. Great deterrent for hawks and so on that are protected, won't kill them, but it will make them think twice about coming back.

A paintball gun is still a gun per the law. Some local "no shooting inside the city" laws exempt air powered an get you past that but shooting a hawk with a air gun is still the same crime as shooting it with any other gun.

Also hawks "protected" from far more than just killing them.

We live out in the country.
