I read on that site that they are pretty heat and cold tolerant and as long as your run is kept in good condition they should be fine.

I am doing a major overhaul of my run based on some good info yesterday on BYC that mentioned using pine bark in the run to control mud. Small chip bark (as opposed to the shavings I have been using) might be particularly beneficial to our beautiful little Silkies!

I have a white silkie....or I should say she used to be white! Since she free ranges all day every day...and loves to "bath" in the north GA red clay....she is now more buff colored! ahhhahha. Can't keep her clean! Anyway, she is now broody for the first time and last night we put 6 eggs under her so we are excited and don't really care if she is white or buff!

Hi! I was just in Newnan today. I love that town...the historical houses are beautiful and its so clean lol. I found a great deal on a chicken house that was just too good to pass up and will be picking it up tomorrow. Had planned on building our coop this weekend but this will be way better.

Thanks for the info on the placement and the silkies. The area we've chosen is a little flat spot on top of a well shaded hill with late afternoon sun. I'm hoping it will be perfect. Thanks also for the pine bark info. I've been trying to decide what to use.

Did you buy your silkies locally? The feed & seed I use doesn't carry them so I'd been planning to mail order. If there is a good supplier around here I'd love to know. :D

I know some one with a lot of silkies. She does sale them. I will be seeing them today and will be trading and EE hen for a silkie hen.

She lives in tifton and so do I. She's got some with really great laying qualities. She keeps complaining about the broodiness. I just laugh at her. They have started to make her production RIR go broody. Haha

Oh wow...Tifton is about 180 miles from me. I think hubby might shoot me if I drove that far for chickens right when I'm just starting out lol. That's not to say I won't in the future but I'm trying to ease him in to this. He's not quite as enthusiastic as I am ...yet ;). Thanks for the info though!
