YO GEORGIANS! :)

I started the year with 36 chickens and my dog killed every darn one of them. I have started up a new flock and up to 7 chcikens that are now laying but should be soon. I also have 40 eggs in the bator right now and 3 dozen more on the way. I have only BCM, Blue Marans, Cuckoo Marans. The eggs on the way are HRIR.

That's one of the few breeds still on my want list. Especially a blue copper marans. I do ha e a wheaten marans, but would also like a blue. I still want one Araucana, one Croad Langshan and a blue laced red wyandotte.

My extra cockerels if anyone is interested. Message me for details. Thanks!

12 week old Blue Copper Marans cockerels - Three of these.
9 week old New Hampshire Red cockerels - Four of these.
14 week old New Delaware cockerel - One of these.

Okay guys. Anyone want to give me some input?

We have mostly finished our two coops for our mutt flock and once that's done we are building the last two. One is going to be for my seramas and silkies. These are to be my 'gun's pets. The other coop is going to be for a dual breed.

My mother wants to get great layers. Something with high brown egg laying capabilities. I however, want something I can breed in spring/summer to help pay part of the chicken fed, coop cost, ect.

Are there any breeds you guys can suggest that lay well and sell well?

Black Australorps lay large brown eggs and lots of them. My RIR laid lots almost every day until the bear got her. She only missed one day every 3 months or so. If you go to the "breed" section of BYC, you can pull up the different breeds and read about them. Also the website: Henderson's chicken chart..... the chart shows all that laying info and heat tolerance, etc.

I've been to the breeds section but some breeds have conflicting reviews so I'm wary of using that info.

RIR's are definitely on our 'potential breeds' list. We are actually toying with the idea of RIR too over orpingtons. Trying to get a hybrid with the Rhodes egg laying and the orps gentleness.

Any thoughts on that mix? We are actually trying to stay away from black breeds as we want more variety then our black mutts in our exsisting flock.
