Maybe it also helps because they say the longer eggs sit WITHOUT incubation, the lower the hatch rate, and I'm always putting the absolute freshest eggs in there, because they were laid that day. So I don't have that extra "sit around" time on any of the eggs.

Just a thought. But it has been working for me quite well, so I'm sticking with it. Over 50 chicks in the brooder at once can't be wrong... (that was the count this past Friday before three people came and bought chicks over the weekend).
 
Thanks so much! I was just curious. I've always worried with humidity toward the end a good bit, but then duck eggs seem WAY more fussy from what I hear. Anyway, I'm like you too as far as no lockdown- I'm always fussing over them too, except with ducks I really do have to lay off once they're zipping or it gets ugly quick.

Yeah, because ducks imprint. Same will happen when I get my goose eggs.

If you do stress over the humidity at the end, get a water spray bottle. Dollar General and Wal-mart both have them for a buck. Set it on mist, and have at it. I do that sometimes with my eggs if I realize that I FORGOT to refill water trays, and want to raise humidity REALLY quick.
 
I have news my incubator addict friends... My sister is an ENABLER! She has an incubator she is giving me lol She says it isnt very reliable so I will check it out and see what I am getting. That way I can hatch my own eggies from my friends. IF I can get it to work and be stable enough to depend on. I have a quiet hiding place away from animals and people activity and still accessible for me to check on frequently. :jumpy
 
Ok. Y'all have given me the bug. I got out the bator today and got it ready. I'm going to throw in some of my Marans eggs. But...I'm looking for some others too. Anybody got some eggs up here in NW GA?

@Chickie Momma , if the temperature wavers too much, try wrapping it in a blanket or unused comforter, and THEN setting the temperature. Just leave enough space to be able to look in and see what the temperature reading is.
