YO GEORGIANS! :)

Hmmm. Well... I got me a new black Cochin bantam pullet and another lemon blue OEGB pullet. Lol!
I went on Saturday morning and wore my BYC nametag. Didn't see anyone else with one although one of the vendors said she saw several people with them on. Wished I could have met some of you! I got a buff silkie. My DH said the only way I could get the silkie was if I got rid of one of my other chickens. hahaha! I am rehoming that last rooster next week! I am so thankful to DH for driving 5 hours (round trip) to spend less than 3 hours at the show. We had to get back early for our new renters this weekend. This weekend's renters are a high school girls (20 girls) soccer team with their coach and his wife..

No, I just figured you couldn't help a duck to zip, because they can imprint SO easily when they first hatch, you don't want it to even see you. It's usually best to let them imprint on each other, anyway.

Ha! Naw, I'm all over those babies and have helped them when I've had to. They're too cute to leave alone! They do get a little attached but they do very well. :)

Wow! That's a lot of people! I didn't know there were BYC name tags. :/

And since we got onto the subject of incubation, hatching, etc., (wait... aren't we always on this topic?) I decided to go ahead and show the pics tonight of the old LG incubator, versus the new one.

First, the old:

Water trays. Kept my humidity around 50% when always filled with no problem, but I know others had trouble. Only three actual "trays" for water though.

Very shallow depth to the bottom piece. You can probably see how the one chick almost FELL out when I opened the lid. Just add an egg turner, and they're high enough!

The "lip" around the bottom piece to hold the top on was on the INSIDE. It's also very short, and the lid could sometimes be barely bumped, and would jump right on top of it.

It's like the old design wanted everything "in the top" with the heating element. Once you add things in (even if it's just the wire screen and the eggs) everything is pushed up above the bottom piece of styrofoam. It made it very top-heavy too.

The two side-by-side (well, kinda - they would be if you turned the PIC sideways).

And the new one:

Six separate "trays" for water, and they cover a LOT more surface area for those who have trouble getting humidity up there.

The lid now sits inside the bottom instead of on it. The lip holding the lid in is now on the OUTSIDE.

LOTS MORE DEPTH TO THE BOTTOM! While the top isn't as deep anymore, it didn't need to be. Now the chicks, ducklings, goslings, whatever, won't simply fall out when the incubator is opened. They sit low enough that they still have walls even with the egg turner in (which I hadn't moved yet).

The lip that holds the lid on is also much taller/ deeper than it was before. And the edge of the lid is almost completely hidden, so no more bumping corners and accidentally knocking the lid off.

The whole new set-up. It looks like viewing windows are larger, but they really aren't. The top is just slimmer now which makes the windows appear larger. The heating element still sits right in part of the view area though.

We all talked about wearing nametags so we could recognize each other. Did any of your chickens win ribbons? Weren't you the one entering a bunch of chickens?

I have a question. How on earth do people get their chickens to grow so BIG! Some of those roosters were HUGE!!! I have a bunch of those same breeds and they are nowhere near the size of those in the show.

And, I was surprised at how many sick chickens were in the judging. Seems like it should be against the rules to enter a sick chicken. Or bring them to a poultry show. I also noticed a few vendors selling sick chickens. Really sad.

I got a few BV and RV in the junior show and I was really disappointed at the sick birds, too. Some of those birds were as big as turkeys!!!!!
