Yeah. They'll hunt anything smaller than them that catches their attention and isn't a chicken.

Lol, my chickens do the same thing. I'll never forget the poor baby mouse I found in my backyard once. He was just old enough to leave the nest. I lifted something up and he was underneath it and scurried out. But that movement was all it took. He didn't stand a chance after that. Skeeter was just a baby then, hadn't even started to crow, and he took after that thing like lightning! I think one of my old white rocks got it first, though.

Lol! My comets are awesome mousers! And my Lt Brahma, yeah. She's after them like nobody's business.

Oh and I just thought of something else I've been meaning to ask. For those of you who build enclosures with 1" chicken wire, what height do you use and where do you get it? I am having issues finding 6' chicken wire. Every feed store I ask says they'll have to order it. And what gauge wire do you use? The last roll we bought just seemed "soft" to me as compared to the older stuff we started out with.

I think I'm going to make a trip to Ladd's in Cartersville tomorrow. Just to walk around and look at all their stuff. I'm about ready to embark on a new chicken pen. This one, as planned at the moment, will be 100 feet long by 50 feet wide. I have this idea in my head that it will be split in two sections in order to keep specific species separated and the chicks pure of blood. The coop, as planned at the moment, will be in the center. It will have roosts for both sides only accessible from their respective sides and we can pass through it to get from one pen to the other without having to walk out of the pen and back into the other side. It's a plan in progress.

Any master carpenters here that want to stop by?

Try hardware stores instead of feed stores.
