YO GEORGIANS! :)

Evening All! I see we've had the discussion about those Ag. Dept. forms, and some fun with naming :). I remember Darkwing Duck, but not his song -I'm impressed! I love thinking of names for my critters, but I hate when I have a group of names that gets broken up because something happens to one animal. for instance, we lost Mr. Darcy last summer which left Elizabeth and Jane in the middle of a farmyard full of Big Bang Thoery names. And there's the very generic-ly named "Peep", the guinea hen, so we all have our off moments.

I see Tygress settled the Ag. Form debate fairly well, but I'll just add that the GA. Dept. of AG. changed their forms after 9/11, in conjunction with some sort of state homeland security recommendations. As a subcontractor in a grooming shop, The shop got yearly inspections, and each groomer had their own license as well. We were given new forms within the last 12 years that do ask for name, address, phone #, and DL for anyone dropping off a pet to be groomed. The form is for anyone who takes possession of an animal (dealers, pet stores, groomers, vets), even temporarily, and is supposedly intended to track the movement of animals in case of disease. That way, any potential exposure of other animals/people can be tracked, and anyone who may have started some sort of bio exposure on purpose can be identified. That's what we were told, but you're right; nobody likes being asked for their personal info -especially to get a dog bathed. That's way very few places actually do it; they'd lose too much business. We told our inspector that we keep good records of our customers, but that we can't make a person give us their DL. I think the state still had people using their SSN as DL numbers then, so it was understandable. The inspectors stopped handing out the forms, and few ask for them anymore, so I don't know if it's changed now or not. For what it's worth, birds have a record of being able to transfer some really nasty diseases, it's a case of CYA for Tractor Supply. That's my..er.. ten cents.

Oh, Robo, I have looked at round posts, and will probably use them for budget reasons, but I've heard mixed reviews. Some say that they rot below ground quicker than other options, and others swear by them. Unfortunately, I see that reviews for what TSC carries have the biggest number of complaints about rotting. I know that my neighbors have round posts and barbed wire; I will ask them where they got them -if they remember (the properties were once one large piece belonging to the neighbors dad, so there's a lot of information that's been lost over time)

Ok so 3 of my chicks that came this morning have had poop on their butt. I've wiped it off and it comes off somewhat easy. Is this moal for newbies? Or do I need to start doing something.

sometimes shipped chicks can get pasty butt. It can build up if your not watching them. :/

@christyinGa I grew up in Canton, went to Holly Springs Elem. My mom is still in the house I grew up in. Are you a Canton native?

Moal = normal stupid auto correct.

So I don't need to do anything except for watch it right now? If their pasty butts get worse or more start with the gross butts, I should be concerned?

-sigh- I might need to find 2 more chicks, not sure our Jubilees are going to make it. They are supposed to be 2 weeks old but are half the size of the other 2 week old chicks we have and they are lethargic. Posted in the chick thread about it: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/860520/are-they-dying#post_12961416

Made a bigger brooder for them all but really just not sure what to do to help the little ones. You can hardly see them in the photo in the back. We lowered the light, are keeping the garage door to the house open to warm that area up more. Husband hand fed and watered the two little ones a bit tonight. I feel like we are failing them.... the other 4 are doing so well though.

Robo we used round posts for corners and gates and then every few in between.. T-posts for the straights. Not sure where the rounds came from though, hubby will have to refresh me. Are you gonna use all rounds? That will be nice.
