We have enough pets!!! I'm trying to be more self sufficient. I grow a garden, can and dehydrate all my extras that I grow. Thinking the same with livestock.

I won't eat my animals (I can buy meat at the grocery store!).

Plus if the civilized world goes to heck, and we have no food, I figure there will be trespassers/thieves coming by and they provide good protein too, though rumor has it that flesh is a bit fatty. Won't be as lean as store bought chicken but it will be protein for me, and the dogs, and the chickens.

Oh sure... rub it in. I heard the feed and seed in powder springs got some chicks. I might stop by there tomorrow and see if they have any left.

you can also dehydrate eggs

anyone had a cornish rock as a laying chicken. I have seen mixed reviews, most of them say they die prematurely 

They get too big too fast. They have heart and Joint problems. I usually process mine by 8-10 weeks.
