YO GEORGIANS! :)

Hi guys. I'll likely be scarce tonight, as 1) my show comes on soon, 2) I've had the day from hell and am mentally exhausted.

In short, my horse buyer wavered, making me second-guess AFTER I'd spent over an hour brushing, coming and crying over him.. Then, as I'm processing all of that I walk by the brooder and the blue chick, who was FINE an hour ago, was dead and stiff underneath the light.

Sorry. I don't usually have drama, and so I don't wear it well. LOL

Grrr...

I'm trying to find out if the "White-crested black" gene is a dominant sort of thing, or recessive, or how it works, period. I'm keeping this little guy, in hopes that he will look similar to this as an adult, and that I can make more. I've never seen a silkie with a crest of a different color. But I have no idea how the gene works, and how I might go about getting more like him - assuming the current black hen's eggs don't create another one somehow.

The good news is, he's healthy and doing fine in the baby brooder inside. I'm ready to move more outside, but he'll probably stay inside for now to make absolutely sure he'll be okay. (I only say he for convenience - I have no idea if it's male or female this young).

But imagine the market on these guys if I can reproduce his color/appearance. All of these other people have "project chickens" and here I am with one that apparently changed himself for a new variety within his breed!

So sorry. I hate when things go wrong. And, when you lose a chick!
