YO GEORGIANS! :)

Almost took a pic of Phoenix's head to show the damage, but not yet. I still want to keep it as covered as possible right now. Plus I spent some time trimming feathers while he was without the wound dressing, and didn't want to leave it exposed to find the phone. So I quickly "gooped" it up and put new fresh gauze on it. Then I wrapped his head again, and gave him a semi-shower to get the blood off of his back. I did take new pics after that though.

Front view. The comb is not black, that is dried blood. But that blood is NOT from his head wound...

I'm about to grab q-tips and cotton balls and try gently cleaning this side. This eye was also hit and the lower lid was completely pierced through. The entire hole has a scab on it though, so it should heal quickly.

This was the bad side for the comb itself. Nipped, clawed, bitten, scratched, whatever, the entire comb was practically oozing blood out of several tiny wounds. You could actually see each individual wound "pool up" in the vaseline the first day. The bleeding has stopped, but some of the vaseline remains so it still looks wet.

Today he got a small meal of hard-boiled egg yolks force-fed to him. I just crushed them up and mixed them with a water to make a paste, and put it in a feeding syringe. None was spit out though. And he has taken in about 6 eyedroppers full of water so far.

He IS showing an interest in the water and food, and follows them with his eyes a bit. But he just won't actually eat or drink on his own yet.

But he IS making progress, so I'm sure he'll be fine. It's just going to take a while. And I have no idea if he'll become agressive or tame after this. At least by the time he recovers completely, he'll have his own pen and his own girls.

How valuable are the eggs themselves? Are the eggs expensive enough to warrant a drive to prevent damage?

$20 a dozen for Rhodebars

So as I sit here watching the sunset and The Muppet Show I am pondering a dilemma with which I find myself faced.... Do I pay someone $12 to ship me some eggs or do I plan a nice drive to north Ga to pick them up in person? They are in Cherry Log up around Ellijay. Beautiful area to visit but it's a whole lot more than $12 worth of diesel for that trip. Decisions decisions.

But just think of the tender loving care you will give those eggs, verses "THE POST OFFICE!"  And, if you go get them on Sunday, I will be home from our trip and you can come and try to talk my husband into committing me and getting all my chickens!

Wait? You noticed those comments? I was talking to your husband and you snooped. Nevermind it was your account. THAT part doesn't matter. Talk GAM into it and we will drive up. Then your husband and I can conspire against you in person. :D

Ellijay is one of my favorite pastime drives. :) My mom still has a camp site up there from when I was little.

That's a little ways north of me. I am headed down to Griffin at some point this week to get the dorkings from Ab. Possibly Thursday, but I'm waiting to hear how that works for her :)
