It's looking like about half are developing. I'll candle tomorrow or Saturday.

Well that's better than her first shipment at least...only two left in the incubator. None of the three cuckoo eggs made it. Keeping my fingers crossed for the one cuckoo you have.

. Oh thanks! I've seen him mentioned in a few different places but haven't really checked him out. I don't buy very often but I found an add for buckeye chicks and I need their mousing abilities. Thanks for the info though :)

They are a dual purpose bird that lays decently and produces brown eggs. I have some Buckeye chicks right now. Of course we'll eat/hatch/sell their eggs but I actually got them because of their acclaimed mousing skills and the "dinosaur" roar that the males make. Apparently they are quite the carnivores and will chase down, kill and eat anything smaller than them. And of course here's the Wiki explanation of their blood origins.....

Metcalf crossbred Barred Plymouth Rocks, Buff Cochins, and some black breasted red games to produce the Buckeye. Her goal was a functional breed that could produce well in the bitter Midwest winters. Contrary to popular belief the Buckeye breed was created before the Rhode Island Red breed and actually sent birds to the RIR breeders for them to improve their breed

After my trip this month, I'm thinking I might need some of these magic buckeye chicks too; and another round of hatching BO eggs. My foray into Light Brahmas from TSC didn't turn out so well; only lost one, but they are really growing out oddly- all different sizes -and one is in permanent fluffy chick mode. My BO hatch dwindled to half after the squishing episode

, so I don't have what i was hoping for out of my "dual purpose' coop. The EE flock build-up went nicely except for one cross-beaked chick, and she's small but feisty so I'm hoping she'll stick around. I'm also looking to add quail after we get back, so farm 2.0 is looking not too shabby so far. We'll see what happens with hubby's Garden 2.0 next...

My Brahmas were doing fine but all of a sudden they started dying. I think it's 2 or 3 we've lost. And 2 of the SLW's up and died for no apparent reason. I thought they were golden by the time they were 4 or 5 weeks old and the random, sudden, unexplained deaths only occurred in the first week or two. Oh well... that's why I order extras.

Uh -Oh. I forgot we were having an overnight guest for the weekend -arriving tomorrow afternoon. I have to go to bed so i can get up and make this house look like a crazy chicken/bunny lady doesn't live here, lol. I don't know that I can hide the dogs, snakes, and cockatiel though. I have to get up early to spruce the place ...Goodnight!
