YO GEORGIANS! :)

When we were Dobe shopping, we had requirements:

No pup <8wks old
No uncropped ears
No female
Absolutely NO blue/fawn.

What'd we get? A 5wk6day old BLUE, uncropped FEMALE. :lau

Ha! My first two (many many years ago) were show dogs. Soon after I got into rescue. I was probably one of only a couple of dobe rescuers in the country that not only docked and cropped small pups but also had the tiny male pups (I fostered two litters) vasectomized instead of neutered.

Cropped ears were always preferred by adoptors though most rescuers thought both cropping and docking was hideously cruel. Fact is those same rescuers would turn down year old uncropped/undocked males that were on a shelter's death row because they KNEW they couldn't place them, yet they would have taken a 6-8 ear old senior male with beautifully cropped ears because they knew he WAS placeable!

I will always love Dobermans, had them for many years. Decided while I love them they are a bit too hyper and prey driven so I switched to an LGD alpha. Much calmer and more protective, course I have a bunch of other rescues that are anything but that!

What would cause a chicken to just stop being able to walk? It wS fine about 30 minutes ago when we put it out in the temp run. My sun put her in the grass and said she was being lazy. She can stand but when she tries to take a step, she falls over. Or she will stand and then just sit down.

There are no breaks that I can feel and it seems to be both legs. I set her down and she pecked at the grass but won't walk. There was no trauma that I am aware of.

How old is the chicken? Ive read of babies dropping dead like in the sunshine then get up shortly after. Older bird maybe heatstroke? We had 91 yesterday where im at so anything is possible. Dehydration? Bring into a cooler area and provide water. Hope it perks up. Maybe others can offer help too.

Don't you just love neighbors??
Well, I DO love my immediate neighbors, because they are quiet. These were someone up on the hill behind us. Those, notsomuch. ;)

No, he's red. Blue is beautiful though!

Oh yes, love the reds too. He really look blue in that pic! Funny, when my girl was a pup people thought she looked red in pics but she's very blue. :)

Aww! She does look red. What a cutie

First pic looked red. This pic above definitely looks blue. Have loved some blue Dobes (and red and black and fawn) in the past, did rescue and showed Dobes for many years. Does your blue still have a somewhat full coat?

There are several things that could be wrong. One is she may have injured her foot or leg. Like humans springing an ankle. Another is something called 'down in the hocks'. It's a heredity thing believed to be caused by poor nutrition in the parent bird so that when the chick is developing, it inherited weak bone/ muscle tissues. As the chick gets to be several months old, these tissues and bones aren't strong enough to support the chickens growth/ weight. I've had two in two years have this happen to. Both never recovered and we had to put them down after weeks of trying to help them. Another thing could be disease. Mereks?
