YO GEORGIANS! :)

Here is the list that McMurray Hatchery sent me. (I specifically asked them) The following breeds may be feather sexed:

Araucana
Buff Orpington
Rhode Island Red (plus, they should have a darkish stripe down their heads)
Black Giant
Dark Cornish
Silver Laced Wyandottes
White rock
Buff Minorca
Single Comb Leghorn
Black Australorp
New Hampshire
Pearl Whites

According to the internet, there are other breeds that can be feather sexed, but again, it depends on if the parent birds where breed for fast or slow feathering.

If you are selling your eggs for hatching....NO,DON"T WASH THEM!

If you are selling your eggs for eating, Ga law requires that you wash them and store them in a refrigerator.
I don't have a rooster so no problem with that.
Doesn't it make the eggs at risk for bacteria to get into the shell though?

Quote: Yes, washing them shortens the eggs "freshness time", but the Ga Dept of Agriculture stressed that in the class, that eggs being sold away from your home must be washed.

The egg is laid with a protective coating called "the Bloom". It keeps moisture in and air out of the egg. Once it is washed off, this barrier is gone and the egg starts to get older faster. As the egg loses moisture thru the shell, air is drawn in to replace the moisture.

When you wash fresh eggs for eating, the water temperature should be warmer than the egg.

For my personal eggs, I don't wash them. And, if someone comes to my house to pick up eggs, they can ask for unwashed eggs and no license is required. (If you sell the eggs away from your home, you need a license)

Well we got the sunshine today but didn't get to work on the coop. My truck died in front of a local hardware store. Ugh!
Still got a rooster crowing in our living room.

That is adorable! I love your set up!

I don't need them until Saturday/Sunday. But I'm working all week except Sunday.

If you think you might be around Jackson on Saturday, you can just drop them off here at the house. Someone will be here, I'm sure, and they can put them with the "stack" of cartons.

I have 26 so far. Yesterday was good to me.

Cool beans. I will Probably put them with abmaddox's eggs, and they will make the trip with her if I can't make it this weekend.

Good late morning everyone :)

The Sun is looking beautiful outside today, so i have a long list of adventures to try and accomplish. If you don't hear from abmaddox or me by this evening, someone come look for us (and please feed our birds, lol)

Enjoy your day!

Sevin dust: you just dust it on and it won't hurt the chickens?? Or eggs?

I cleaned up a girl with mud butt a few weeks ago, but last night I noticed the lice have come back :( :( :(

I feel HORRIBLE. And like a bad chicken mom.
