YO GEORGIANS! :)

well after smelling it when I opened the bag, I should have known it couldn't be good. I'm learning as I go. I have 8 chicks right now and am totally in love.I got them for my Granddaughter but we are having a hard time sharing...lol. I love my coop me and my Daddy built and can't wait to build another one so I can have more birds. Incubating eggs is sounding pretty appealing too. i live in rural Ga and amazingly I'm having a heck of a time finding chicks other than at TSC.My Daddy used to raise and race homing pigeons and we raised quail for a few years, so I do know a little about birds. Just didn't know chickens were so comical. I have one (my EE) who cracks me up. She is so comical and somewhat the boss. I moved all 8 of my chicks into the coop together last night for the first time and was a little worried she would bully the younger ones....but she was really just pretending they didn't exist. I'm a stay at home Grandma who cleans houses to get away from kids when i can, so I have plenty of time to learn as much as I can. I have a 10x10 dog pen coming tomorrow to convert into my second coop. I can't wait. I'm not sure if I ever posted a picture of my existing coop on this thread or not, but I will. It's exactly what I wanted and I hope my girls are happy in their new home. Seeing where they came from, they better be:)

I guess I should let everyone know that I replaced the cedar shavings today with pine. I also wanted to mention that the only reason I bought the cedar to begin with was because that's what the obviously untrained employee at TSC sold me when I got the chicks. I had pine in the coop itself that I borrowed from my Granddaughter's rabbit. The cedar was in part of the outside run. It's gone now...so no worries. Thanks for  letting me know. My chicks free range for most of the day, so they didn't spend much time on the cedar. They are locked in the coop at night and only had pine in there. I'm new to all of this....so I appreciate those of you who let me know it wasn't good.
Most of us at least considered cedar in the beginning. I was like you- I ran out when I got my first (rash decision) chicks and grabbed a big bag of cedar. Just riding home with it in my car caused me to google it before using. That's what brought me here, lol.

It IS crazy strong smelling, isn't it?

BTW- WHOSE eggs busted ATL wide open at 1:30 this morning?? This girl's!! :clap :D

Sounds like everyone here is doing good. Got my internet up and hope I can update more photos. Going back to the house tomorrow to let bil weight in on it then we will see if she accepts my offer. I got a bit of wiggle room but I need so much and im not as familiar with prices of paint and such here plus conversion to metric gonna be fun. Sad I got everything in the world sitting in my garage back in the states and gonna have to buy, borrow, beg stuff here plus find itand get some help moving. Last move, next ones to the ccemetery. Not taking anything that move lol.
Hello to the new folks, talked to my gardening guy today about DE hope he understood he told me 5 bucks and he will bring tomorrow. If its not the right stuff I will have to locate other foreigners see if they know if it can be found here.

Got my chicks. This order is all kinds of f*cked up! Lost two silver sebrights on the way. But then I only got 3 of my white frizzle cochins (out of 5 that I ordered), got an extra silver polish roo (I ordered one, got two, and it's not my free chick), got 7 BANTAM blue cochins, and one large fowl, when I ordered 5 of each, and no large fowl white cochin male at all.

What. The. Hell.
