YO GEORGIANS! :)

****HEAVYSIGH****

Oh my GOD, guys. Today is the day I'm setting my eggs and what..

I come home to a bator (empty of course) at 105*

Well, it's empty, so you have time to adjust it! Besides, an hour or two at 105 wouldn't kill the eggs either. I wouldn't aim for 8+ hours like that, but one or two should be fine.

Thanks. :) Yeah not sure what was up with that, but I figured it was rebelling from lack of eggs, so I stuffed it full. :lau

Thanks Lynn.

Guys- is it possible for an egg to totally lose the air cell during shipping? Strange I know. I just either see a few moving air cells, and then no air at all on a few.
Um, not really.

I seemed to have "lost" the air cells on these turkey eggs I just got. But they are cream-colored shells with brown speckles. And it was actually just hard to see the air cell between the speckles. ESPECIALLY if the air cell doesn't move - then it's **** near impossible to see it on those.

Just do the 24-hour sitting, and then start incubating them anyway. You should be able to make out the air cell soon after that.

Newbie question...

Put our three girls in their pen all day today. Noticed when I got home that two of them were casually breathing through their beak sometime. Is this normal? Is it the heat? Feedback appreciated!

Yes, it's the heat. Chickens don't "sweat". The moisture inside of their mouth is the only way they can bump up the heat loss, aside from drinking cold water, and pooping.

Thank you, CD! Yes, I went Back and looked again and mostly it was just that they are so scattered. :/ (and cream/brown eggs)..

SO.. After a crack research sesh, I decided on 1) concentrating on incubating/turning (on turner) now, and 2) worry about air cells later after I know what I'm dealing with.

I feel good about this decision. :)

Very excited. Went to dinner and came back to find my broody chicken just hatched the two Indian Runner duck eggs she was sitting on. She started with 4 eggs. One never developed and one got broken when another hen tried to get in the nest. We then moved the broody to her own private crate with the two eggs and they are here! Will try to get photos tomorrow. They weren't due until Thursday! Yea!
