So my chickens are getting pretty grown. At what point/how can I tell if I have any Roosters. They have been bumping chests and my wife swears she heard something trying to crow the other morning.

The black and white one in the front center of the photo above is a rooster. I can see his saddle feathers already. Many of the rest of those look like hens, so far.

Aww man. That's our favorite. I was a little worried as it is the bravest of them. The black one has me worried also.

Did someone mention staying away from a seller that goes by JJ? I saw a farmer John, JJ chickens and rabbits in villa Rica, I did not know if that was the one or not?

Yes, that's the one.

She is a Partridge Brahma. There are three of those (her and two Roos), the black is a BCM roo and the white is a splash BCM pullet.

Cool. Love the coloring.

Im still hoping to get some juvenile birds from glass pond farm in Cleveland, ga. Just really hard to get in touch with them. Email only, so it's super slow communication. Guess it's best to be patient for quality hens.

Okay, McMurray Hatchery offered to replace the latest shipment again, credit me, or refund my card. I told them I was feeling really depressed with everything going bad, and then the loss of my top roo this past Sunday, and I felt like quitting until next Spring, so they gave me a refund without any hassle.

With the refund, I'm about to go try YET ANOTHER Lowe's store tomorrow for the last few pieces I need for better pens (at least 2 pens for now). After that, it's stock-up on chicken feed, put those new pens together, and order a spring-trap for that **** fox. I'm also going to be cleaning both live traps, and putting fresh bait in them.

AND, first thing in the morning, I have a technician from the Georgia Poultry Lab (Forsyth office) coming to pick up some of the chicks that have died lately. They're going to do a necropsy on each them, free of charge. But she happens to live about 3 miles from me, so she's just going to pick them up on her way in to the office. YAY! The results will be emailed to me, so here's hoping it's nothing really bad. I'm pretty sure it's not a case of Marek's, as my older chickens who were never vaccinated, have all been fine. Plus none of them are really making it to the proper age for Marek's to take hold, before they die.


So I'm on track to get my flock back to 100% health (or separate/cull them if I need to), pen them up properly, and kill that REALLY ANNOYING D@MN FOX!

And to add to that, my brother is getting himself a new chainsaw soon, and plans to use it to clear out the woods here much faster (they were using a reciprocating saw.... on trees!) That means I'll soon have the materials for good chicken pens, AND a lot more space to put them! Not to mention, fewer woods for these **** predators to hide in as they sneak up on my babies!
