Ermahgerd!

I just realized that today is the first day that I did not use Benadryl OR hydrocortisone cream, and didn't get the urge to scratch until my skin came off!

Poison ivy is almost gone!!!

No bloody poo.
No pasty bum.
Not eating.
Sleeping a lot.
Shivering just slightly towards the end.

Pen was cleaned, move the tractor every day/other day.
She came from good stock.
All the other chickens are fine, thankfully.

Can ants kill a chicken? When I fed them this morning she had some on her and wasn't moving away from them.  I moved her to a dry box of shavings and started caring for her right away.  Was pretty sad and feeling helpless earlier, but talked to some friends and they assured me it happens.  Just trying to figure out what happened exactly....

Any Ideas?

No clue, but that is pretty much how I've been losing most of the chicks I have had this year. Very sudden and mysterious. But this last one came back around after dosing it heavily with Duramycin (oxytetracycline). Gave it a shot, plus mixed in with food that I had to force feed, plus mixed in the water.

Thanks, I'll have to try that in the future.

Have you heard anything else on the chickens that were sent off?

I managed to get afternoon farm chores done with only a few raindrops towards the end. It was eerie though, I could hear the rain moving towards me through the woods behind me, felt the wind, and knew I only had moments before the bottom fell out. It even creeped the chickens out, they all headed for their coops and got quiet.

I picked up the littlest zookeeper, and headed home to Mr. Zoo suggesting Olive Garden for dinner. Yay! no cooking with a stitched finger :). I did feed dogs and check on chicks before we left; little Forrest can stand and take a step or two now! I'm making sure he drinks often and has food in his crop, so I'm hopeful for him. Did I mention that one of the pullets will have to be named Jenny now?
