Wow, you guys are just babies! Sorry you lost your dad. Mine has been gone for almost 20 years now. He was the most wonderful man and Father! My mom is not well and we may lose her before this year is over. She has had dementia for many years now. It's really like we have already lost her. Some days she knows you, other days she doesn't.

The name of the place is the Georgia Poultry Lab. Go to their website HERE and find the location closest to you. Then you can email the veterinarian in charge of that location and ask them how you would go about submitting a bird for necropsy. Diagnostic necropsies are no charge. It will only cost you the postage to send it in. If you live close enough to any location though, they may let you just bring it by.

But I am STILL waiting on results from mine, and I sent five dead chicks in on May 22nd. I emailed him today to ask for an update, but haven't received a response yet.

Ok. I looked up sudden death in chickens. Aside from egg bound, or Merkes disease, many chickens die of heart failure. Even young ones. One website said that feeding them the wrong food (with too much or not enough protein) can make them grow too fast. Causes all sorts of problems!

I'm only 23, don't even have a man yet. Have to find one that can build, lol, maybe already with some family farm land or something. You'd think it wouldn't be that hard in a "small county" town.

It would probably be easier to just learn to build the stuff yourself, and find a man that is okay with it, lol!

I would have been able to believe that with mine IF the cornish rocks all died. They just have a reputation for bad hearts because they were bred to grow fast. Add in the high-protein feed and they are very well known for heart attacks and sudden death. But they were LEAST affected by the issue.

Thankfully, most chicks are perfectly fine on their normal starter feed for several months... As long as they are also allowed more exercise with their growth. So a brooder big enough for them to do those silly little spurt runs with wings flapping, is a good size. But people are more tempted to overcrowd them in the name of warmth, which causes trouble when the chicks get to a bigger pen, want to play, and their body hasn't developed for heavy exercise.

That's what I'm doing now, I also kill, clean, and cook birds. This is usually the time of year I get my batch of meat turkeys to grow out for thanksgiving, but i'm thinking of trying my hand and caponizing some roosters, mom's a vet tech so I grew up working with all sorts of animals. Right know I have 2 jobs, decorating cakes and grooming (mostly) dogs. I also do cakes and stuff from home, it's what I went to school for after all. I try to grow a lot of our, gardens a little slack right now though. Don't have a working tiller ATM.

Ok, this is for those GA's that like a good mystery.

We had a 20LB bag of ant poison granules sitting between our home and porch steps (We throw the granules out where we park our cars every year so the fire ants don't wind up in our cars) This morning as my DH left for work we noticed the bag of granules had been moved about 10 to 15 feet from where it had been sitting to a position on the other side of the steps and in front of the porch on the ground and it had rips in the bag. Something, not someone it seems moved it with teeth or paws/claws to it's new position.

What on earth could have moved this bag and why? I mean it's poison.

In my head I'm hearing the theme music from Twilight Zone...

is sounds like a dog they will get in to any thing that smells funny to them.or really huge ants that are mad
