YO GEORGIANS! :)

Exactly one week ago, I wasn't worried about finding my birds a place to live. Tomorrow we'll all be moving to new places. They are going to one friend's house, until another friend is ready to keep them for a longer time period.

Meanwhile, all of my stuff goes into storage, and I pack a suitcase and stay at my mom's RV for a while. The future is unknown. But we're all going to make the best of it.

Okay, I think I was mistaken about the Ayam Cemani's crow. In the video of the Ayam Cemani, I never actually saw the rooster that was crowing. After doing some more video surfing I found a chicken that is called the Laughing Chicken. Cemani Farms sells these also.

Yup, all 4 from TSC, and they only get their chicks and ducklings from Mt. Healthy and Mt. Healthy doesn't seem to have anything on their site that looks like those colored ducks! Mystery! They all appear healthy at least.

That is just wild... I know our ducks are mixes of runner/pekin and runner/welsh harliquin so for someone else to come up with what appears to be the same mix is just crazy. What did TSC have them labled as?

Edited to add: We also get wild mallard visiters to our pond so I can't be certain that we don't have some mallard in the mix as well...

TSC had them listed as straight run ducklings. (if I am remembering right LOL) I remember asking an employee who was clueless.

Clueless emoloyees at TSC? Say it ain't so.

Boys have different feathers that betray them.
4 weeks old is too late to see the darker red coloring on female RIR heads, so go on to the wings. I have found that on MOST chicken breeds (not all), you can tell a boy from the girl by looking at the shape of the wings.

Primary and secondary feathering all same length = girl

Primary wings longer than secondary wings = boy

All you guys out there.....is this what you are taking about? I have found that I can't do this with Black Australorps. All my girls had longer primary wings. But, so far, the other breeds I have dealt with, this works well.

Also, at 4 weeks, you may begin to see the start of wattles under its chin.

I laugh because I have a chicken that at two weeks old looked like this! No waiting to guess on this little stinker! Obvious boy right off!
