So last year we noticed we had a bit of a bug issue outside. Doesn't help there is a pond about 200 yards from our house. Well this spring we got a bug zapper and it has helped allot. I noticed after a month or so the toads were hanging out under the zapper waiting for an easy meal. Then last week while researching maggot farms I ran across a guy who placed a 5 gallon bucket with a little water under a flood light. He was catching all kinds of beetles and flies. Well I put a bucket under my zapper and now every morning I wake up to about 2-3 ounces of fresh bugs. So if your looking for an easy way to get your birds some bugs this works great.
I'm sorry to hear about you losing your Polish pullet. I'm was worried that our birds were too hot last week when we had the very high temps. We are trying to get the large coop ready for our 8 week olds and hopefully adding enough ventilation. You have a cute shed/coop!![]()
Our only Polish Pullet died tonight. She was laying around a lot today so I thought maybe she was getting ready to lay an egg. Our EE Roo though would not leave her or any of the hens alone today though. Maybe he hurt her with trying to mate? It could also have been dehydration as she was stuck in the coop this morning, some how the coop door was shut, we have water in that coop, the open duck coop, and the duck pool so if one runs out they all have more but not with her suck in the coop and it was hot today. Everyone else seems great. We moved them to the new shed coop this afternoon. I don't think it was too stressful though as all the chickens where in the yard anyway.
Husband said I can look for a new polish or two when he gets back from his trip in a few weeks. It was my sons chicken though, her name was cup cake, and he will be very sad when we tell him.
YAY! Awesome! Pictures when you can!I have a baby chicken!
