YO GEORGIANS! :)

A few years back one of my colleagues was just getting started. I helped him get geared up by giving him all of my rebuilt havajunks. He was still short a basic load of cages so he bought this great deal on traps from TSC. He learned the hard way the very first use. He caught a grey squirrel but it seems a hungry raccoon had other plans. The coon literally ripped the back of the cage apart to get the squirrel. I used to have a pic of the damage. If I can find it I'll post it.

BTW, when cage trapping squirrels always secure the cage so it can not be moved. I can't tell you the times coons have hauled off my squirrels, one ripped off a roof and tossed three stories to the ground.

So, um, did anyone else ask for chickens/supplies for Christmas? Is this a new norm for keeping chucks, rather then asking for jewels or books?

Something about those derpy ladies running to me when I call just makes me smile:)

Sounds like you explained the problem yourself. If your friend was a landscaper and he purchased a lawnmower from Home Depot he can't compare it to a commercial grade product. It is homeowner grade and prices accordingly. I am willing to bet the traps you purchase for your business are not $20.00 traps either. Apples to oranges.

True that but if there was a most likely to be defective/immediately fail category the green TSC traps are it.
I recommend spending ten dollars more for the havajunk and adding enough hog rings to make it serviceable.

Um, yeah! How about Tractor Supply gift cards and 100 egg cartons! (I get clear ones to show my colored eggs in to sell!). My DS just gave me $200 in Visa cards so I can buy chickens and DH will never know! Wahaaha!

Got new kiddos today!!

In other news: RATS. How do we safely control them around chickens? I think I've asked this before but can't remember all the wonderful info you guys divulged so if you don't mind repeating.. ;)

They make me want to "vomic". I hate them.

Obviously they are an issue at night, when the birds are all asleep. I assume during the day the chickens keep them at bay.
