YO GEORGIANS! :)

I think I have overwhelmed my broody. I had placed 16 eggs under her yesterday. This morning two other hens went into her nest and ended up breaking one of the eggs which made a mess over most of the other eggs. Today I collected 9 new eggs for her. My thought was to just put the new eggs under her, but I decided to quickly wash the day old eggs with warm water and put them back under her......that makes a total of 25 eggs! I did move her to a private brooder. I think she is big enough to cover all the eggs. I am pretty sure most of them are not going to be fertile, so at day 10, I will candle them and toss them out. Then, she won't have so many. I only used eggs from my colored egg layers.....EEs, Naked Necks, Isbar, and frizzle Naked Neck. The rooster with them is a Swedish Flower and I think would carry a very light brown egg gene (pinkish looking)

I am doing an experiment with these eggs. Earlier I had posted a website that said they could hatch all female chicks by just hatching certain shaped eggs. They claimed that those eggs that are extremely rounded are females and those that have a very pointed end are males. (Now, I have hens that only lay one shape, so not sure I believe in this method), but I did note in my notebook the shapes of the eggs. I number all my eggs and name the chicken the egg came from, so now, I also have my guess for males or females before they hatch according to the shape of the egg! I may not be able to tell much from this hatch as the broody will be sitting on the eggs as they hatch. (I will try this later with an incubator so I can actually watch each chick hatch. I always write down some feature that lets me keep track of which chick hatched from which hen) But, I may be able to tell with the NNs. They are easier to tell which was the mom!

Anyway, will be fun to see who my rooster likes! I would be in total shock if they are all fertile!!! hahhaha, DH would shoot me! But, I have only seem my rooster with like 6 or 7 of the hens. Don't think some of the girls like him and they beat up on him! And he is only about 7 months old.....may not even be fertile at all! I haven't cracked open any eggs except pullet eggs because I sell the other ones, so haven't really checked fertility that way! Will let you know how it goes.

This is not a photo of my Swedish Flower Rooster, but mine looks almost identical to this one! Hope I get some NNs with his interesting coloring!
