Just some chicken food for thought. Everyone says Purina/DuMor chicken feed is a terrible garbage feed brand...so far this year we have sold 353,000 pounds of DuMor Layer Crumbles and Layer Pellets. Either it's not as bad as people say or it's a miracle there are any chickens left in Henry/Butts/Newton/Rockdale/Spaulding.

On the DuMor our hens had thin egg shells even though I give them oyster shell. After I switched to Purina they have been doing great.

In other news, is it bad that I don't worry about wet ground in my coops? Honest question. Or are you guys talking about inches of water? I don't worry about disease and I also don't worm my chickens.

Please tell me if I'm doing it wrong? I know we all have our ways but don't want to be terribly wrong.

One of the coops had a 2ft x 2ft section that was dry. I started scooping water into a 2 gallon bucket from a large puddle in the run when it started raining again so I gave up after filling it up 3 times. Waiting for the rain to stop long enough for us to get the shop vac to get most of the water out.

Yep. This has been a ridiculous amount of rain. We have never had this much water in our runs.

My house is on flat land and if it rains for 2-3 days straight in the winter we have to go on shower, dish washing, clothes washing and restroom rations. If it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down. My wife just called and said the toilets were about to overflow from rain water running up the line into the house.

I also get some wet areas in my coop/run area. It is really not a good thing. One of the most often comments I read about in chicken health books is to not let them have to stand in water/wet areas. It can contribute to lots of foot problems and also to chicken croup, coughs, colds, etc. On cold days, it can cause frost bite and loss of toes, etc. I think most people here are talking about inches in the coop, but any wet feet can be bad. Just watch them. I don't worm either. I do, however, add lots of DE to their feed for a weeks to help with any parasites/worms. I do this about every three months.
