The coop is divided by fencing inside between the storage area for feed and supplies and the actual area that has the roost, nests and feeders so the chickens can't get to the heat lamp where I was going to hang it. The two mamas are together with the chicks and so far have been sharing the raising of the chicks and huddle together to keep the chicks under them. I have insulated the walls around the mamas and chicks and there are no drafts. I'm hoping they will continue to keep them warm. I just don't know if I should add heat with heat lamp or not.I think heat lamps are an issue if the chickens can get to them in any way. They might try to roost on them or something. But you will definitely have to put them somewhere sheltered from the wind. I can speak for the motherliness of your hen so she might or might not take good care of them.
Do y'all still have chickens free ranging?I'm really not looking forward to getting all of the critters through this cold/wind. Lots and lots to do.

We do. All adults though. They'll be sleeping on tree limbs.
