YO GEORGIANS! :)

so can young chickens like 3 months old remain outside with the temps dropping to the teens here in Atlanta?
im not worried about my full grown birds, but the younger ones that are separated are living in a dog house like the one below with pine shavings.
should i insulate it? am i worrying for nothing? im stressing a bit, like should i rush deliver something off Amazon to insulate this!?

Have the birds been acclimated to the cold so far? I think I would at least put a sheet over the door to keep the wind out. I have plastic sheeting on two sides of our coop/run that keeps the heat in and air out. Maybe you could put a light in there? Make sure it is safe and won't cause a fire. I am going to keep my three 3-month olds outside, but they are all with the big girls and they actually have been roosting inside the coop and not on the roosts inside the enclosed run.

ok, I have asked this before but never really got an answer. Has anyone ever used a "stud" rooster? My friend has a bunch of Golden Cuckoo Marans roosters, but only one or two hens. (They are not the best quality) I have a beautiful GCM hen that she has wanted. (I won't let her have her....,lol) So, she wants to know if I can let one of her roosters 'visit' my hen and then we can hatch eggs. What are the pros and cons of such a thing? How is it done?

well the younger ones have been outside since thanksgiving. i guess its been fairly cold on and off since then but nothing like the next few days. i did buy the plastic door flaps that go in the doorway when i first put them in the dog house, it does keep the draft out.

you know, one of my younger ones jumped the partition into the bigger chicken area and i found her almost pecked to death. she did not live, she had serious head trama and could not use her neck to eat, it was awful. i could not heal nerve damage, just the exterior wounds. im afraid to move the young ones with the bigs bc it will probably happen again. they are not half the size of the bigs yet.
