Just came inside from giving the chicks their scrambled eggs and the adults their scratch. It's a bit cool here 38 this morning. Sipping on hot coffee and what do I hear screeching from the hawk that has obviously take up residence somewhere near our property. This is not good news. I was hoping the hawk was just visiting the area yesterday.

Ohh noooo Valley!!
You know, I made eggs for chicks once and they were terrified. Wouldn't go near it even though I left it sitting a while. They gave it the hairy eyeball every time they walked past.

I found a great tutorial with pics (a must for me) on fodder! So easy! Google "fodder for chickens" and it's the Chicken Chick one that comes up. Flower, maybe that will save you some typing. I would love to know if that's your same method though. :)

Oh, all my chickens love scrambled eggs. I only give it to the older ones once in a while. The little ones (3 weeks now) I give it to them on the cool mornings because they are in a separate area of the large barn coop with their mamas not added heat just the moms.

I will check out fodder for chickens on The Chicken Chick site. Thanks! I so want to try the fodder especially if there is a threat of hawks in the area. I won't be letting the chickens out when I know for a fact there is a hawk near by.
 
I've been on the websites for the local feed stores and can't find barley seeds anywhere to make fodder with :(

I can find rye grass seed no problem, though. Anything specific I need to be aware of in regards to chemicals, etc?
 
I think you just have to be sure it's not treated seed.

Valley, any reason you don't give it to your grown birds much? Mine of course tear anything up that doesn't bite back. Not that I cook for them often, just curious if there's something I should know.
 
I often grow organic hard wheat sprouts, in water and sharing with birds and also for the family. They love it. Barley if you have someone who can share with you can be ordered on line as well as feed stores, don't know the prices for feed stores either on this so I don't know what a good price would be...sorry. I use Honeyville for my baking grains and they currently have a 15% off sale of $50 or more order and their shipping is super cheap as well. My local Ga source organic hard wheat (spring variety) is a local farmer friend. If you are interested in some of this, I can get in touch with her on the price. Honeyville also sells the large buckets of red organic hard wheat which should also sprout if you are looking for a huge quantity that can be stored for a long time. But really though, I haven't paid attention when you've told us stuff before because mine always free ranged. Now they don't get out near as much. Especially in winter!

You do realize her previous posts are still there, right? They don't go away. Looks like you just need to go back and find it instead of demanding that poor Flower retype it just for you. It's not all about carcar.
