No kidding. That's happened at our place more times than we can count. I imagine it will be much worse this spring when our pair of Red Tailed Hawks that nest in the back corner of our lot start feeding their youngens. I imagine they will be sick of chicken by the time they can fly.

On another note: The two turkey hens we got at Cliff's swap got released into the big pen with our Tom, Hanks. Other than being attacked by 2 roosters they did quite well. They immediately laid on the ground and let Hanks mount them.... each 3 times within about 15 minutes. If they're old enough to be fertile, we should be getting some eggs soon.

we went to the livestock auction tonight they had two gorges juble orphanton roos that they sold as speckled sussex. But had I promised my dw that I wouldn't bring anything home and its to cold to sleep outside tonight so I had to pass them up but I'm sure that they will be back next week.the guy that bought them was not very happy when he figured out that there not Sussex roos. Now I just have to talk her into more birds.

Cliff, I'm sorry the hawk got the little hen.
We have a hawk also and last summer we lost a lot of ducklings to the hawk. :(
Sad, but we must go on.

God bless you and your flock.

We had some hawks hanging around in the fall. the crows have ran them off so I started feeding the crows. I throw a few hand fills of corn out in the yard just before daylight and now they stop by every morning Now there roosting in the woods behind us. just something that might help run them off.
