Finally got a response from the breeder: both are JG. Gah!!! He made a mistake. I don't have room right now for any more chicks, I have to wait for the new coop to be built. Disappointed:(

Not sure about the breed but to me looks like a Roo. The legs look thick. How old did you say it was?
 
Now I'm questioning if the "pullet" (first pic) is actually a roo as well! The breeder admitted he just kept thinking black JG roo when he got them out for me, I looked them over and they were healthy, so I took them home. Even paid him the $ for a JG and a SF, there's a difference in price for each. Since we had talked about what I wanted so much, I didn't bother to ask " are you sure this is a SF chick?". Just a mix up, but if this ends up being a roo as well, I'll need to home him or eat him. I don't have a large enough flock for 2 roos.

ok his mistake, and he's not going to make it right? who was this so I know to avoid in the future?
 
He said for me to let him know when I'm ready, and he'd hatch some. All he has are his breeders right now. It's Fisher's Quality and Rare Breeds. I really like Dale, his birds are lovely, and it was an honest mix-up. But if it ends up being a roo, I only have 5 ladies.....

NO! That is not a Swedish Flower. They should look like this:

Hens should have lots of colors....splotchy coloring!


Roosters have lots of color splotches, too. Both can be crested or not crested.

where are you located?
 
I'm in Bogart, outside of Athens.
I'll try to get better pics of the pullet, but I'm hoping she is a she. Her tail feathers don't seem as pronounced as the roo's.
 
So, The husband and I have decided for sure we will expand our tiny flock next month, whether or not we have roos here. If there are, we will get another Buff Orpington for sure, I wanted four hens of that breed specifically. The end goal was to have a mixed flock. The breeds we have selected to add are:

1 Auracana/Ameraucana
1 Colombian Wyandotte
1 Cuckoo Marans
1 Pearl White Leghorn

Do any of you have any opinions/ personal experiences with these breeds y'all would like to share? Not sure if we would like to find local breeders or if we would do a hatchery order, yet. I'm all for supporting local businesses! Which is why we decided to get the first flock from a small local feed store. I see lots of good reviews for most of these birds in the Breeds section of the site.
