Yep. Two so far. I was shocked when I looked in and saw them. We didn't think they were due for several more days.

So cool that it happened on Mother's Day weekend!

here's what we did today. Actually started it yesterday and finished it today. over 300 sq ft of flower bed...........

started with the split rail fence and bird house yesterday, as well as trenching for the edging. Everything else we did today. A butterfly bush, azalea, some shasta daisies, marigolds, zinnias. The bird house, bird bath and feeders. Then we went over to the tree service, hand loaded a load of wood chips, then brought them home and unloaded. talk about exhausted.

Tie that into putting the lawn mower back together, cutting grass, doing the weed eater around the house and the ditches out front, washed Jill's car and my truck.......gee I wonder why I can't get to sleep

all that, and at the moment you can't even see the flowers!!

you all have been busy while I was away, yes I was away for the smartie pants of the group, my internet was down and the little dude had to come out and fix it, but I'm back!!!!

Now for my drama, some of you know about one of my Roosters I got from Florida and how he was really aggressive and that since I let him out he has become a different bird, well his buddy that came with him from Florida the araucana Rooster, has kicked the hell out of this bird and he is really hurt, one eye is swollen shut, back of his neck is bald, his comb is all bloody and I had to rinse the blood out of his caked feathers, all this after I went out to the pasture to retrieve him, wow he sure made his buddy mad. So he is in a pen all by himself poor Nat I feel sorry for him. so do I keep Nat and rehome his buddy who only has this rage against Nat, the araucana's name is red Fox and he is just fine with other birds and people, suggestions? Well if Nat lives he is really hurt, I may have to take him to the Vet

I would rehome Nat , Fox gets along with everyone . Nat sounds like he has been a problem from the get go ,maybe he needs to be where he is the only roster .

Guys I'm in a real quandary over my Mama Mallard. She should have 1-2 weeks left on her eggs. I know that if I let nature take its course, she will lose 1-2 ducklings per day until they are all gone within a week or so.

So. Here are my options:

1) let that happen. Survival of the fittest n all

2) take the eggs. Though I really don't want to do this one.

3) let her hatch them and then capture them. We tried this once before. They are near impossible to catch but it could be done with enough time/people.

4) once caught I could..

A) just sell them
B) pen her up with them (which would be. difficult as I have nowhere to do so)

Or,
3) raise them myself, which again, is hugely messy and well.. Yuck.

I guess I could also attempt to move her, eggs and all and see if she would finish them out in captivity but I don't see it. She originates as a tame duck but has been raised as "wild and free" since before maturity.

This is a LOT of thought for one little hatch of ducklings.

Well you all the chick that didn't look so good didn't make it on a good note all the others are active looking good . A new home is being built for them now , when I laid the 1600.00 quote down that I was going to spend .Well not really but the family does not need to know that they found time to build one It is my mothers day gift from the boys the labor anyway .

Shock your pond and get rid of all the bass and turtles then the ducks can live safely in the pond.

Happy Mother's Day everyone! Woke up to 4 new chicks and 7 more pipping in the bator!

First one out was a Marans X NN. It was indeed a NN! No other NNs yet, but pretty sure I should get some more today! Hope some will be frizzles, too!

Everyone is doing so much nice work around their yards! It all looks great! Had a wedding here yesterday and they will be packing up today, so guess what I will be doing today! Yep, cleaning! Randy has been gone for the past two days to help at the Indian PowWow in Canton. I usually help, but had to stay for the wedding and check out. No children close by to have over for Mothers' Day. Booo! But, they have all called already and I know I am loved! That is the best feeling in the world!
