YO GEORGIANS! :)

Sooo a few days ago I have my broody some ready-for-lockdown eggs, as she's been going at it for weeks. I could SWEAR I have her five??

She has two chicks, one unhatched egg and zero shells. Now I can't remember but I THINK they eat the hatched shells right? But unless two chicks were hiding somewhere, or I forgot how many eggs I have her.. Something's up!

That happened to me. Eggs under mama disappeared! Then, we found out the snake was getting under her at night and eating the eggs one by one!

I have one last batch of MFD eggs supposed to come in tomorrow.. Gonna set them Friday with a few others and them shut down the bator until my AMs start laying! Chick sales have HALTED. Anyone else notice that?? They were booming winter and early spring. This is my first year really selling many chicks though so maybe that's just how it goes..

If you can't sell them, grow them out. I have sooooo many people looking for POL pullets all the time!

Whatever happened to the mallard nest?
Snake, we assume.. Eggs dwindled and she finally stopped sitting. Wish I'd grabbed them. :/

Well, I thought that too.. But the plot jus thickened. Now she has one baby, one egg. And I've even been sitting outside this whole time and heard no ruckus. I stood there a few minutes though and my AM boy came in.. Saw the chick and slammed it into the wall. So I blocked everyone out. (Planned to anyway but hadn't done so yet) Either way.. even of it was him that got the chick, I see no trace of a dead chick. And I don't see how the flock would have devoured it w/o a trace while I sit right there?? Ugh!! And that still wouldn't explain the missing eggs. A snake would.. But the snake wouldn't explain the recent missing chick!?

Yeah but I REALLLLYYYY don't want to do that. May have to though!!

Correct but I have decided that's not what got the chick just now. I've never known a snake to rush off after a meal.. We looked all around.. And why wouldn't it just take both chicks? No??
