YO GEORGIANS! :)

Thanks y'all. I was leaning toward the metal but was considering a rubbermaid container. I'm mainly worried about rust(?). We will have to keep it outside under cover until repairs are done. I'm worried about the wet & moldy conditions in the shop. I hate going in there unless it's absolutely necessary. We've had mice destroy lots of things in there but I can't recall them destroying any of the plastic totes.
i didnt think they would chew the totes until my neighbor had a problem and i actually saw this if you get a very thick rubbermaid can maybe this wont be a problem so for my garbage can is working but it is a really hard plastic like the one people used to put household garbage in this is what im using so far so good with it no problems yet.

oh i forgot to add if no food in totes mice wont brother it when you put food in totes then its a problem the plastic of totes is too soft.

my neighbor had problems with they used totes and the rats chew thru them oppussem will raccoon will open them most of the time they leave metal cans alone for some reason.
That sucks. Thankfully for me 5 years now with horse feed in a barn and no problems with rats or possums or raccoons. If someone has a rat infestation though a metal can (or other option) may be better.

I've got layer feed in a metal can, but chick feed, scratch, and BOS are in Tidy Cat buckets on a covered patio. Never had a problem with spoilage or rodents, but I do have a cat that kills any rodent in a 5 mile radius.

I store mine inside the coop, they can't get in it, and it's off in a corner where so far I haven't had a problem with them getting up on it. BUT........when I built my bin feeder between the walls, I built it big enough to hold a 50 lb bag of feed at a time.....the metal can holds the scratch for cool weather treating, the PDZ and the bag of grit. Think there may be a partial bag of DE in there too, LOL

I finally got around to doing the PVC water system for the chickens today. 30 gallon food grade barrel, some pipe, a shut off, a bulk head connector and the chicken nipples. No more filling the water bucket every other day!

Eventually I will hook it to the gutter on the coop, so I went ahead and cut the hole for the overflow. I can fill it with the hose there for now. Fixed the drain back through the fence and down below the level of the nipples to act as a syphon to get the water back out of the nipples before freezing this winter.....what do y'all think?

Cruel and unusual to say the least! Don't these babies know? They were supposed to hatch Wednesday night and through Thursday (which I had off!) Ungrateful!
It would be great! Fingers crossed and hoping for four healthy babies when I get home!

I tell you what though, @Gamarans' roosters know what they're doing! All four eggs were fertile and developed throughout incubation! Even the one I was most worried about was the first to hatch!

lol
just wondering how/where some of y'all store your feed? Ideally I would like to store it out in the shop. It's the closest outbuilding to the chicken yard. At this time, it is not so ideal due to roof leaks, active termite infestation, general moldiness and a mouse issue. It's a hot mess until we have the time/$ to get it fixed.

Metal trash can
40 gallon metal garbage can with lid, with a rubber strap holding the lid on

See.

You can also try an old chest freezer.

Good news! I must not have screwed them up too bad because the two that had pipped are cracked more and a third has pipped! I can't tell if the last one has or not, because I think I accidentally faced the air cell away from me.

UPDATE:
As of 5:30am the Marans egg has hatched! From here she looks beautiful and perfect! (And boy has she got some Lungs!) Once she's dry and fluffy I'll take her out and we'll see if there's anything wrong. I'm so happy!
(please pardon the quality, it's with a flashlight and a cell camera.)

6:30 second chick is out! This one is one of the maran mixes' eggs and was one of the two pipped last night. No progress on the third pip yet, and still nothing on the light bramah mix egg!

awesome!!!
