YO GEORGIANS! :)

yup. I think that's the way we're gonna go. Funny you mention the old freezer. There is actually one sitting out there just beyond the fence. It has trees growing in it.

That one might not be best.

This is proving to be as much fun as i had hoped. So out of the 6 chicks we have the one silkie feathered non NN, then of the two black showgirls one is silkied and the other is smooth, then the white turken is getting silkied feathers and the white showgirl is also getting silkied feathers then last but not least the one true turken is getting some interesting red brown and tan markings. I'm not sure i am going to be able to sell these chicks just yet.... :/

So when I came home from work, guess what? All four out and fluffing!

100% hatched! And after I was preparing myself for the worst, too!
As far as I can tell all are healthy! Little blondie's belly button didn't look totally closed this morning, but it's shrunk down and seems to be closing now. They're all stumbling about and curiously pecking the floor and eachother! For now they're still in the 'bator with the lid open for fresh air and the temp reduced to 95 because they were panting.

Can't decide which to keep?

Out of curiosity, what's the difference between a NN, a turken, and a showgirl?

Naked Neck is the official name for a turken and a show girl is a silkie crossed with a turken. My babies are a mixture of show girls and turkens so they each have a few traits from both parents.

yay!

I finally got around to doing the PVC water system for the chickens today. 30 gallon food grade barrel, some pipe, a shut off, a bulk head connector and the chicken nipples. No more filling the water bucket every other day! Eventually I will hook it to the gutter on the coop, so I went ahead and cut the hole for the overflow. I can fill it with the hose there for now. Fixed the drain back through the fence and down below the level of the nipples to act as a syphon to get the water back out of the nipples before freezing this winter.....what do y'all think?
That looks awesome!!!!!
lol Metal trash can See. You can also try an old chest freezer.
Yup! I mentioned a freezer too. Would be good if you have a lot to store! But maybe not with trees growing in it lol

Cliff, your water system looks awesome. I was wondering if your nipples leak? LOL.....that sounds nasty......anyway, ours dripped so we ended up having to put a catch system under the nipples. And, I know what you mean about your chicks....I may end up growing out about 10 to 12 of the chicks I have hatched to see what they look like. Here is one for sure I want to keep!

So far it still looks girly! I will name her Mad Maxine!

Metal cans are what you need to keep rodents out......ask any prepper!

Shadesofsable, congrats on the chicks! Isn't it fun! Now you are ready for an incubator full!
