I'm so egg-cited! My RIR Lily, laid her first egg today and my first. She'll be 20wks Old this coming Wednesday, I was just a little disappointed that it was very small though and also because she didn't lay in the nest box as I have 2 for my 4 girls. But I am so happy still to see an egg!

So after a broody comes off/is taken off the nest how long do i have to wait for her to return to laying eggs? This whole only one hen laying eggs thing is for the birds.

How egg-citing for sure!!!! I've always heard the first and the last eggs will be small but will grow over time which makes sense knowing how human cycles work from pre-teen to menopause.

lol yes but it does drive me crazy. I took her away from the babies 2 weeks ago and she still hasn't started back laying yet.

Congrats on your first egg! Do you have plastic eggs or golf balls in your nest? Sometimes young chickens need hints as to where to lay. Make sure your box is private enough. I put curtains up (stapled old dishtowels up). Most chickens figure it out, but some don't. My year old Buff Orp drops her egg anywhere. She can't be bothered with sitting on a nest!

The size will get bigger. I saved the first eggs by blowing out the yolks. A year later makes a huge difference.
