YO GEORGIANS! :)

What's wrong with this picture??? (Besides the weird ghost like thing that shouldn't be there?)

Well, there are no incubators on the counter! After 5? 6? months of almost constant hatches, I have boxed up my incubators! (Well, not the little mini bator. That makes an excellent infirmary!) Will take a break and concentrate on selling eggs (and the rest of the chicks) Am also growing out some to see how they look and what color eggs I get. I need another white egg layer. Also hoping to get some new fun shades of greens and blues!

But, it sure is quiet in here! No little humming noise or chirping chicks! I may not be able to sleep! Ha!

So, the grandkids came this week. We went tubing the first day.

Went to Raccoon Mountain in Tennessee for a 4 hour spelunking trip!

Yes, that's me going through the 49 cent squeeze! It's like being born again! Loved it!

Then we went to Rock City and Ruby Falls

Then we came home and watched chicks and ducks hatch! These are the first 14 (of the 21 chicks and 5 ducks (so far)) that got taken to the brooder!

We were suppose to go to Stone Mountain with the grandkids on their last day, but our renters left in the AM and new ones came in the PM, so I had to clean house!
So, that is what I did last week. That is just what Grandma's do!

Same here! My bator shut down last weekend- cleaned it thoroughly today. Moved the extra brooders off the screened porch- down to just the one now. It looks so empty but it's nice too!!

The two pippers from last night are still alive and peeping and seem to be making some progress, but I'm kind of worried. Both pipped very low on the eggs. One seems too wet and I'm worried she'll drown, the other too dry and I'm worried she's stuck. The wet one was in the direct path of the humidifier when it turns on, so I switched her and the dry egg, hoping that helps, but when should I intervene? This has been a weird hatch, I guess. Or maybe it's just that it's shipped eggs?

Still no other pippers and I fear the worst... I'll keep them in until next week though just in case.

In my opinion, not yet. I've had lots of Marans pip low (the eggs tend to be very round) and it does take them longer than even normal hatchers. But I've had some that I've felt certain would NOT hatch, hatch just fine on their own.

Just do your best to keep temp/humidity stable and keep hands off. If after 24* pipped they have made no progress then you might intervene. :)

But that's just my opinion. We all do things differently. I just had a bad habit of helping too early bc I'd get nervous and it never ended well. It's easier to clean up a cemented chick because you waited a bit long than to lose one because you helped out too early.

Ok. Thank you. :) That makes me feel much better. I'll still keep checking on them, I don't want to loose either of them! One is a mottled orp, the other an olive egger. I sure hope some of the others pull through too. Lots of interesting breeds/colors.

Oh ok, I was thinking they were Marans. Either way I've had other breeds pip low as well with good- although somewhat delayed- outcome, lol.

Nope! though the OE might be maran mixed.

EDIT Just double checked and in fact they are! Maran/EE cross.
