YO GEORGIANS! :)

I don't understand your comment about "the first two went bad and they had veins"  They are suppose to have veins!  Veins mean they are alive!
Yes I know! We were excited that they had Veins when we candled them about day 17 and then around 19 one exploded and then the one around day 23 we took the oldest one out and it was dried out

I should have said they started out with veins but ended up not being viable

Oh, ok. Yeah, that would have made more sense. Hope you end up with one!

It won't smell good for long... Rotting grass and chicken poop does not make for pleasant aromas.

I let it dry in the sun most of the day before I raked it up. Not really any different than the hay I've been using is it?

I even raked in the pine straw. I really don't think I'll have a 'rotting grass' issue

oh, also I've been putting my grass clippings in the run all summer long, haven't had an issue there? am I missing something?  LOL

Yes. Yes you are. Apparently you are missing water getting in your coop to wet the grass. Water gets in ours when it rains hard enough and grass or wheat straw stinks when it starts decomposing.

ahhhh..........ok that's it then. My coop stays dry inside. The run though, will get wet. But they keep the grass, wood chips and everything else I throw in there turned over good enough I don't have a problem with any odor at all. carcar has been here, she can verify that. If you'd take her word that is

About a week ago I bought my hens some electrolytes and vitamins for their water. Since I started adding them to the water every day, I have been getting more and more eggs. I think it really helps this time of year! Had been only getting 11-13 eggs a day. Now getting 15 - 20 a day! And, the eggs seem bigger. Here are the ones I got today! It's hard to tell, but most of the eggs are green and blue today. I guess tomorrows will be mostly brown eggs! Weird how that happens!
Those eggs are beautiful! Dang that's a lot of eggs for one day!

My DH does the same thing after cutting the grass, we've never had an issue with rotting grass either.
