YO GEORGIANS! :)

It won't smell good for long... Rotting grass and chicken poop does not make for pleasant aromas.
I let it dry in the sun most of the day before I raked it up. Not really any different than the hay I've been using is it?

I even raked in the pine straw. I really don't think I'll have a 'rotting grass' issue

oh, also I've been putting my grass clippings in the run all summer long, haven't had an issue there? am I missing something? LOL

Anyone have any chicks, my broody silkie has been sitting on a batch but it doesn't look like any are going to hatch and so I was gonna sneak a chick under her. I'm in savannah

yeah that's awesome, I want some marans and a couple OE's too.

A few pages back, you posted a pic of your eggs you sell. I had asked about the clear cartons and your labels, but the page swept by pretty fast. Do you print your own labels or buy them, and where do you get the clear cartons?

The clear egg cartons come from McMurrays Hatchery. The blank labels come with them and you use their template to make your own labels. You print them on your own computer. I tried the ones that can be split into 2 - 6packs, but they aren't strong enough and when they are full you can't hold only one end or they break apart. So, I just get the solid dozen carton. I usually get them as birthday/mother's day/Christmas gifts from my kids!

No, as long as you are drying it out some and it is not just clumped wet grass, you should be ok......Also, watch to make sure your chickens aren't eating it unless it is short. Long strands can roll up in their crop and cause sour crop.

If you stuck them underneath her the day you purchased which was 7/9 then echnically they would not be due to hatch until Thursday this week. Sometimes they go later so I would give them until Sunday 8/2 before pitching them. Have you candled them?

We haven't pitched the youngest. We are hoping atleast one hatches from the three. We have candled them and there was growth but the first two went bad and they had veins. We've been leaving them alone with her and just looking at them. We are going to wait till at least Sunday. I know it's 21 days. We haven't given up hope but as a second option are thinking about sneaking some chicks after Sunday.

I don't understand your comment about "the first two went bad and they had veins" They are suppose to have veins! Veins mean they are alive!
