YO GEORGIANS! :)

Eight months doesn't sound far-fetched to me. I don't know about AM in particular, but non-hatchery stock of most any breed will generally lay later than hatchery stock. This is true for Brahmas for sure. Also depends on the time of year they come of age too IMO.
See, I don't have time to try to sell roosters. I give almost all mine away, unless it's just one that I'm not stretching to house and feed. When I have boys in bulk, it's a free-for-all. It's SO much easier!
This is very true! I've always had a mixture of hatchery layers, and non hatchery. My marans, non hatchery, always drove me crazy because they wouldn't lay until 40+ weeks

Hey Papa Chaz have you looked into Murray McMurray, looking in their catalog and online they have juvenile pullets -@ 18-21 week old chickens you can get depending on what you are wanting.

Well, what we knew was coming but suspected would be years down the road is happening. The surveying has begun for the widening of Hwy 101 where it passes our little farm. The way government works, it'll probably still be a couple of years, but it negates any chance of us building a house there. Now we can only hope once the road is finished, the property will go commercial and we can sell it and buy another place that I can retire on.... in 7 years 3 months 24 days 2 hours 57 minutes 17 seconds..... 16... 15....14....13.......12......11....... but who's counting?

Really!! Well, you KNOW that will be commercial when it happens. You guys can get further out and stretch out even more. It'll work out, just stinks in the mean time. :(

man I hate that for y'all, that place is awesome. Maybe they'll just offer to buy it all at market value and you'll find someplace even better

I don't think the road will take any of our property since we are actually on the side road. But we're close enough that our chosen house site would be within just a few feet of the road once they widen it. And this duck ain't living mere feet from a 4 lane divided highway heavy with truck traffic. So we won't likely get any money from the state for the road so we'll just have to sit on it until the area goes commercial. And then we are going to sell it and hopefully find a bigger place. Considering how close I am to retirement, we will likely start looking east of Atlanta around Green County. Maybe. I'll actually retire before GAMjr graduates high school so we may be stuck here since we won't uproot her that close to graduation. Kids just screw up everything!
