So, As I was finishing up disinfecting the coop, I hear pecking outside the pop door. Blanche. Outside knocking to be let in.

I'm heading back out now to dust it and try to kill whatever's in there.

Then after dinner, hopefully the dust is settled enough to refill and reopen it for them.

3 out of the 5 bails of shavings from TSC this week were so wet I didn't think it a good idea to use them in the coop. All of them were not 100% dry, but the ones that weren't too bad, I was able to salvage at least some of it. I'm sure it's unavoidable since they're stored outside, but I bought 5 bails because I knew I was going to have to clear and redo the coop once more before we leave for Nashville. The WHOLE POINT of getting 5 was so I wouldn't have to go back to the store again. Am I crazy for being a tiny bit miffed? Somebody please tell me if I'm being a little too high maintenance. I'm a freak about things being moldy after living in a house that had a basement with black mold issues from water leaks. I'm a firm believer that the only place on my property water should be collecting is in my well and in my swimming pool. Everything else needs to ****** stay dry. Seriously. This site really needs the emoji with the smiley face beating another smiley face bloody, with a giant fish. Or even better would be the cop smiley face tasing another one. We need to make that happen. SO for now,

I know I'm supposed to cook them and eat them, but I'm just sort of standing here staring at them in awe. It's so weird knowing that they came out of animals that I hand raised and not off a shelf at the grocery store. For this displaced city girl, it's kind of surreal. But still pretty ****** cool.

if you knew me at all, you'd know my tetanus shots are ALWAYS up to date, LMAO


we also have a first aid kit in just about every room in the house

I also have to keep my tetanus shot up to date. I often walk in the yard in flip flops (and around the chicken pen, and sometimes in the field)
I've run two nails through my flip flop this year when I was outside and hubby asked for a minute. I went to the recycled wood pile and yep, stepped on the ONLY board with a nail in it, twice!
