LOL good for you! maybe stan has learned his lesson. All I have to do is point at mine and he's ducking for cover. It is good though that he has the "protection" duty down pat. Glad all is well in the chicken yard again! So, Stanley Roosterface seems to be recovering just fine. He's definitely putting on weight. And his energy is back. Blanche tried to escape the run and my knee jerk reaction was to put my foot out to stop her and hold her back, which obviously set her to sqwaking. Stanley didn't like that. He charged at me and tried to kick me, but he got a nice shove with my boot. Came at me again, but I hollered "Don't do it mister!". Stopped dead in his tracks and scurried back under the coop.![]()
Rose had an empty crop 2 mornings in a row, so I released her to be back with her flock mates. All seems well in the chicken yard. While she was quarantined I figured out she was the ONLY one who's been laying eggs. Both the eggs that first day, were from her. I was wrong, Blanche is not laying despite the fact that she's definitely more developed than the 2 other ladies. I was convinced she'd go first. From the looks of things, IF does start, they're likely to be fertilized. I sometimes forget that she and Stanley were so sickly when they were babies that I have no idea if there's any long term effects to be discovered. She's definitely his favorite. Rose is somewhere in the middle development wise. It seems her pattern as of now is 2 eggs, every other day. While she was in the crate in the kitchen, the first day she laid one perfect egg and then a shell-less one. I assume because she was only eating yogurt that day. Either way, it's still kind of surreal that eggs are being made in my backyard. It was even more so today when I picked up the egg and it was still hot. So cool. In total, 5 eggs since the 21st. I'm assuming, for her that is a good thing? I sure hope the others start laying soon. It'll be just in time for the second dose of ivomec so we can have our 2nd 7 day withdrawal! Just our luck.I guess good things come to those who wait, right?![]()
That is really nice of you to look out for her .LOL good for you! maybe stan has learned his lesson. All I have to do is point at mine and he's ducking for cover. It is good though that he has the "protection" duty down pat. Glad all is well in the chicken yard again!
as for the eggs, she'll get 'regular' at one a day after a while. I was experiencing the same thing with one of mine. And now, I'm only getting one white egg every other day.....and one of the ameraucanas is only laying every other day. It should be time for the other two ams to start any day now.
On another note, I've made a point to give a dozen eggs to each of my neighbors. Today I was out in the yard, and the man who lives across the road behind me came over and asked when I was going to have some more eggs to give away.......I thought 'uh oh, started a trend here' then was immediately somewhat embarrassed when he said the little old lady next to him was disabled, but hasn't been approved for anything yet and just gets food stamps. His comment was 'she's depending on family and friends just to eat'..... Luckily her home is paid for. I took her a dozen eggs a little later, and I'm going to make sure she gets some things from the garden. Jill and I may just pick up a few extra things at the grocery store this week, but she'll get a dozen a week as long as I'm getting them
