We are looking for some marans, wyandottes, and or jersey Giants to add to our flock... Pullets are okay, hens are better. In the Savannah area but willing to drive up to, or around an hour and half.... Thanks !!!!
 
I had a neighbor that kept rabbits, I always felt sorry for them, they just were always in their cages hung in the air, the rabbit litter is better for a garden you can use it right away and it will not burn everything up like fresh chicken litter, rabbit litter has low nitrogen. I guess it would be about the same up keep as chickens, but they can't be let out or they run away and you have to handle them a lot so they aren't fighting you all the time. Oh and the rabbit litter makes a great medium to grow worms for bait, or chicken treats. Chicken litter can carry something that will make the rabbits sick, and could kill them. Google it I can't remember what it is. and their teeth don't stop growing so they have to have something to chew on. You can train a rabbit to use a litter box, but they will chew every cord in the house and then some. bout all the stuff I know about rabbits.

Hey Flower. I'm up late with this obsession you facilitated :). I have a black mini lion head that I absolutely adore! She is litter box trained(very easy and quick to learn) so, she is running around my living room right now. Like dogs and cats, they can have personalities and how affectionate they become depends on how you treat them. Mine comes and jumps up into my lap frequently. She parks herself on my chest for rounds of mutual groomings. Rabbits take turns doing this to express affection. It's cute. They put their heads down when it is their turn to be groomed(petted or kisses). They do this little teeth grinding thing when they really like what u r doing. Then, when u stop, they start lucking you again :). My little girl grooms my cat sometimes too! Watching them do "the bunny 500" and little happy jumps where they kick their legs out to the sides is great fun to watch. Their poops are dry and even better fertilizer than chicken poo.
To me, they don't really have any cons. But, you do have to clean out their cage and put in fresh bedding once a week or two. They really need at least an hour or two of time out of the cage for exercise and entertainment. So, covering or blocking access to electric cords is a must. "Critter Cords" work great for me. If you get more than one and don't want any babies u'd need to spay. And if you end up with a male, definitely neuter! They can spray like cats. That's about all I can think of. ... Oh, and your chickens will eat rabbit poops(survivalist trick) if the world is coming to an end! :)-

You know how I keep my Voodoo. Pros-they are so stinking cute. Cons-he laid my leg open last night not wanting to go back into his cage.

Are you wanting your rabbit indoors or out? I haven't kept them outdoors since I was a child, but if Voodoo lays me open again, he's going outside. lol
 
Now we are at week 24.......still no gosh darn eggs.... my girls are seriously making me angry!!!!! Then to top it off...my other hens are molting and now I only get one egg every other day from my polish...aND one from my barred rock every 2 days. I need 3 more to make a dozen in almost 2 weeks.....this is terrible.

Are your chickens red faced? (Wattles and combs red)? Do they squat when your go to pet them? I have had so many chickens and the average of mine starting eggs has been in the 30+ week age. Send us some photos of your chickens faces and lets see how close they are to laying?
