YO GEORGIANS! :)

I'm gonna go back track and catch up. While I'm doing that, can someone tell me their experience with hen saddles? @Flowerbh , didn't you recently have to use one? I just tried to use one for Rose, Stanley's chosen her as the favorite. Her saddle feathers are definitely getting pulled out, but so far, no wounds, scratches, blood, etc. Yet.
I just ordered some and put one on her. As soon as I let her loose, Stanley attacked it/her and Blanche & Sophia also joined in. I took it off and they left her alone. I felt so bad because they were so mean as soon as they saw it! I assume, if that's the immediate response, hen saddles are going to do more harm than good? Or do they eventually get used to it and leave her alone? Rose is a lover, not a fighter. I have them packed up and ready to be returned to amazon. If they are going to antagonize, I'd rather find a better solution. Thanks in advance!

We just processed my favorite rooster! (We as in my husband, I take no part in the actual act). He didn't serve a real purpose. I want a marans rooster if I'm going to keep one, but I'm still kind of sad!!

We had 2 Roos and 8 hens. One roo was starting to harass the hens who have not started laying yet. It was easier to do them both at the same time.

I feel terrible

Well katiedarling : not sure about the hen saddles, I am still trying to figure out how to keep my roo from having my hens go bald. He has one favorite hen to pick on and for some reason he harassers this one hen so bad she is bald on top of her head. Anyone have any idea how to protect the hens head or how to prevent this. Any suggestions are appreciated. f

If you want I will buy the saddles from you to save you from shipping them back, as I need some and then I can tell you if it is just your chickens acting strange, and yes flowerbh did just buy some.

I have a Styrofoam incubator with turner bought from TSC a few months ago, used once. I will sell it to BYCers for $60 OBO. regular a hundred and something can't remember but Cliff can tell us the price, I have gotten my Brinsea bator fixed and prefer to use that one. I used shipped harshly handled eggs so hatch rate was terrible. So I'm sure it was me and not the bator.

I don't know but my roo ended up killing my hen, so I'd watch her

Hey! Yes, I ordered 5 saddles. When I put the first one on, everyone ran from her. They all took off squawking like she had some disease or something. Poor girl was ostracized for a day! Whenever she tried to walk toward the others, they just ran and then she ran after them and they all scattered again. It was comical in a sad way. Anyway, they all got use to it. I think your chickens/roo may have attacked the "alien thing on her back" and not really the hen. He may have thought he was trying to protect her from whatever was 'getting' her. But, I now have all five on hens. They seem to ignore them now. I find that many times, the aprons flap up, so not sure how well they are really working. We will see.
