It did seem he went directly for the apron. He seemed to be trying to tear it off and when I went in to grab her he went at me, too. I just shoved him away and got her out so I could take it off her. As soon as she was back to 'normal' they were all fine. I took him out, put him in my lap where he promptly started snoozing and then I set him loose in the run ad continued the rest of my chores. I figure, I'll watch and wait. DH said if we need to try the saddle again, we can put it on her when we are out there working so we can watch them closely.

I felt bad because he reminded me of the abusive husband that beats on his wife for wearing some outfit he deems inappropriate. I think I may have been more horrified by that.

edited to add: how did you get them on? is there a trick to getting them on quickly without hurting them? I was fumbling with it and was so worried I was gonna snap her wing or break feathers off. The elastics seem really stiff.
maybe he's just kinky and thought it was some kind of bondage thing that got him really excited.............

I don't know much about chicken saddles, but would it help the attacking problem if you put them on several chickens even if they didn't need it?

I had told you a while back that I went caving with my grandchildren but had no photos yet. Well, here are a few....

Loved it! This particular hole is called the 49 cent squeeze. The saying is that if you had had one more penny in your pocket, you wouldn't fit! Not bad for a 63 year old!

I think I'm gonna pass out...

I feel a little panicky just looking at the photos! How do you do that? I'm so claustrophobic I won't even go in the crawl space under the house.

That crossed my mind this morning. Maybe we can give it a go. He's extremely protective of them, so what @Flowerbh suggested makes total sense. Sadly, I had even chosen the one with what I expected would be the least disruptive pattern! LOL

Ok, I have some stuff to share, I work at a center that gets donations anyway to make a long story short, I have white latex base paint, and light deck stain and deer repellent thingies so I am keeping some gallons and have some to share, so pm me if you want some first come first served and if you go to the TSC swap on the 10th I can bring it to you or we can meet in Rome/Adairsville area.

dang! I completely forgot about the swap on the 10th!
@katiedarling

I finally got a pullet egg!!! One has started to pay rent.

Yay! It's about time! Blanche and Rose are still giving me 1 each. They're pretty regular now, too. Two a day for a few days then one or both take a day off. Nothing from Sophia yet, but I see her little practice "nests" every morning in the coop. Still can't figure out how to get Rose in the boxes. LOL Every morning there's one in a box from Blanche and one on the bedding just in front of the boxes with the decoy egg rolled out next to it. She's so silly! The other day I was out there and caught her in the coop laying in her little spot, I lifted her up and there was the decoy egg underneath her. I gently picked her up and put her and the egg in the nest box and waited. She got up, walked out of the coop and that was that.

I'm getting 7 eggs a day now, 4 are from my bantam/LF mixes and they are a medium size bird that is laying an egg a little bigger than a bantam(light brown) right now as they have just started. So I'm excited, my Brahama's are still young and are getting bigger every day, love those birds so docile and just don't mind being picked up at all, now for the Olives that is a different story and I got these birds from CARCAR,
Now for Pappa chick story, I had a hole in the brooder box that yes the babies found, since plugged it,but not before 3 babies made a jail break, so I found 2 (this was day before yesterday so Monday!!) and I figured between the hens/roos/cats/dogs and being out away from the heat that this baby was a goner well guess what showed up when I was checking them for the night yep came to the box wanting back in,

and so glad mostly cause it was a blue. Ok Kats story time is now over, you can resume chicken TV.
