UGHHHHHHH....

ONE. One chick is what I have from these stupid BR eggs I got. I have NO idea what happened. Worst hatch ever from this incubator??? I'm not inclined to blame the incubator though. These were the eggs that were all stored upside down when I got them and the air cells were all sub-par because of it. I hoped it wouldn't make much difference but do you guys think that could be a factor, even though the babies did develop? I don't know.

Anyway, out of thirteen, seven developed, and four made it to lockdown. One hatched, and it was stuck and I had to help it out.

One chick. :( :(

In other news, the MFD eggs I put in from my own flock look awesome! Six out of seven developing beautifully. Not too shabby for their very first eggs!

So sorry about your hatch. Storing them upside down is definetly a factor! When stored with the pointed side UP, the air in the big side of the egg is now at the bottom and will starts moving up thru the egg to get to the top again. The air can rip thru the yolk as well as tear away the two little white 'strings' that normally hold the yolk in the center of the egg. If these are broken, the yolk can drift and stick to the sides or sink to the bottom of the shell. So even if the chick starts to develop, they usually die an early death because of not being in the middle of the egg as they should be. That is why shipped eggs have trouble developing right, because these two 'strings' are broken with all the rough handling in the mail!

I would contact your seller and tell them they were not stored right and explain it to them. Most sellers will replace the eggs for just the cost of shipping. But that person needs to know about how to store them correctly!

Oh I did tell him. He said he had no idea, it was a friendly convo. He offered to replace but I declined, they were super cheap eggs and I mostly just wanted him to know bc he had mentioned hatching some himself. Nice guy. :)

But do you think these could've developed THIS far and that still be the issue? I guess I'll see how these mfd do but I'm almost paranoid something is up in the bator.. On the other hand I don't know what I could do more, it's so automated.
