Hey Y'all

Time to re-introduce myself. Been off the forum and BYC for a while due to job changes, deaths in the family and moving. Things have settled a bit.

I've got Delawares, SLW, BCM, some EE/Cochin mix and some muts. It's a funny thing to see, a black cochin laying blue eggs!

I expanded this year to coturnix quail and had a big ole mess of them for Thanksgiving dinner along with everything else.

I expanded this year to coturnix quail and had a big ole mess of them for Thanksgiving dinner along with everything else.

Are your BCMs French?

SEE! This is what y'all get for ignoring me all the time. I have posted several times that you can check municode.com and pick your jurisdiction. Funny thing about Gordon County.... Their definition of livestock does not include the words poultry or fowl. And the best I can figure, you gotta have 5 acres there, too.

Are your BCMs French?

At first I thought you said "Friendly" - Sure, they're friendly. They say Hi every time I walk up with some corn.

Then I read it again. They don't cluck with an accent.

I bought hatching eggs a couple of years ago from some folks out near Bowden I think. They were advertised as such, but I can't tell the difference. I was not impressed with the quality of the eggs. Half were not fertile, a quarter of them died before pipping. But every one of my eggs placed in the incubator hatched. And the eggs they've been laying the last year are more spotted and mottled than solid brown.
But I like them still. I'll see how the new ones lay and decide what to do - try to keep the breed or let them grow old and go to soup.

French will have feathered legs. Darn shame they aren't laying the dark chocolate eggs for you. Beautiful birds, regardless.

so they're saying any fenced animal has to have at least 5000 square feet inside the fence, that it has to be set back away from adjoining property lines at least 50 feet. So all these people throughout this county who have a fence right along the road right of way are illegal. That the chicken coop can't be within 500 ft of my house, etc etc.

The paper said they had been working on it for a while and the commissioners wanted to go forward with it and public hearings would be scheduled...if they DO have them they will probably be weekday at 10 AM or 3 PM so not many folks will be able to attend.

If given enough notice maybe some can get it off

Hiya! We'll be starting the move in April but it will take a while since I'm coming clear from Ohio. I raise chickens, turkeys, geese, peafowl, coturnix quail & goats. Looking to add guineas after the move to help with pest control. The kids want a pony & I'm planning on raising out a hog & a beef to go in the freezer with my chicken & turkey.

Hey I have a medical question and maybe someone has some advice or can supply some info. One of the chickens I rescued has no feather and is red, raw and when Clean the poop off the area bleeds a little and of course also brown watery poop comes out. Have her isolated and she is eating and drinking well, have been given her 1 teaspoon/ quart of water -Oxytetracycline for the past four days. Have also given her 0.25 Oz mixed in a gallon of water of Nutria-Drench in her water for @ 6 days (Approx.. total of 2 quarts of water with this mix daily) all fresh daily. When I clean the area, have used preparation H and also sprayed the area with Rooster Booster Poultry Wound Spray. Does not appear that it is prolapse as nothing protruding out so nothing to push in. Anyone with help. Weather I am doing good or bad or if something more I can do and how long before can see improvement. Appreciate some input and help and will greatly appreciated. Thanks

Don't use preparation H with pain meds in it. bad for chicken, I think I would use some neosporin without pain relief. maybe she has diaper rash,

use some corn starch to dry it up

I just make the bags. Unless u want me to bring rolls of empty bag? They get sent down to Perry, GA to be fill.

I worked at the Rockmart police station while doing my internship and I asked everyone and have a friend that works at Polk Animal Control and even made sure with them. I had 8 rooster at one time. Now I am down to 4 but 2 are bantam cochins so I don't count them. I am actually thinking of selling the 2 bantam cochin roosters and my bantam cochin frizzle hen. She is at the bottom of the pecking order and the other bantam hen in there is pulling her feathers out and eating them. She targets everyone but seems to target the frizzle hen more.

maybe she is bored let them run around they will go back inside when it's time for bed
