To stop nest box sleeping, you have to block off the box at dusk. Once they seem used to sleeping elsewhere for a while, you can stop.

for all those who don't already know how to tell an egg is fertile, here's a picture. See the white bullseye? I've gotten 2 AM eggs the last 3 days and both of them were fertile, time to start saving them up!




also, after getting a couple of really big white eggs from my leghorns the last few days, here's what I've gotten so far this morning

Would someone explain...?

I have received several ovations since posting on this board. I certainly know what an ovation is in the traditional sense...but not so much in this setting. It says to click here to see your ovation and I see the list in my profile with the giver's name but that's all that's there. I would like to thank the person but how do you acknowledge/thank the giver...? Any explanation would be appreciated.

Ovation in a chat thread usually means someone agrees with you, likes your advice or is thanking you for helping with something.

see the 'thumbs up' icon down there under the post on the right? if someone likes what you said or agrees with it, they can give you the thumbs up. It will tell you who it was there, but they might not have said anything....although they can add a comment if they choose to.

when someone does, you'll see a number pop up. I just 'liked' silkies explanation, so now there is a 1 there. Anyone can click the number and see who gave the thumbs up, but you'll see your total ovations under your avatar when you click your own name or go to your profile page
