You could dehydrate them but they aren't hard to keep alive, even if you aren't planning on "farming" them yet.I seriously want to go sit in the d'Uccle run with lots of mealworms and let them worship my existence.![]()
Well.. As long as I have whatever it is I'll need, I'm game. You could dehydrate them but they aren't hard to keep alive, even if you aren't planning on "farming" them yet.
This weekends renters just left. They left enough food to feed our local friends AND my chickens AND my dogs for a week! Huge casseroles, sandwiches, tons of chickens, chili, spaghetti, etc etc! In the freezer was one of Randy's favorites. Frozen strawberry daiquiri mixes. 4 of the ready to drink kind! Brand new ice creams, never opened box of chocolate covered cherries (for me!) and tons of donuts, 7 unopen bottles of orange juice, I mean, it's like Easter here! HAA!
But, the thing I wanted to tell you is that two of the women came up to me as they were leaving and said they wanted to buy a chick each. I asked if they had other chickens. NO. Well, why do you want just one? BECAUSE THEY ARE SO CUTE! Well, I don't sell just one. You would need to get at least three because they don't do well alone. And, you do realize they grow up, right? (BLANK STARES) Where are you going to put this chicken? Do you have a predator proof coop? (BLANK STARES) Did you go to my coop and see how big they get? NO.
Daa, I just can't get over the fact that people are just clueless about small things growing up to be adult size. I use to work in a plant nursery and people did the same thing. They would buy a bush to put next to a walk way and not realize that that bush was going to grow to be 10 feet by 10 feet! It's incredible to me that these two ladies did not have a clue as to what to do with a baby chick! Needless to say, I did NOT sale them a chick!
It's why I make sure to interview the parents when kids in my hatching classes want to take home any of the chicks from our hatching classes. They are given the heavy version of what is needed. (I'd rather they find it easier than I say than harder.) And they are also given my contact info so that if it doesn't work out they can get them back to me.I agree! I use to raise Great Danes and had so many people trying to give me theirs. They got them as puppies and really were overwhelmed once the puppy grew up. It amazes me!
