YO GEORGIANS! :)

I got my numbered leg bands in today, got up all the eggs and numbered the next six hens that went to nest. I numbered those six eggs and we opened them tonight. There were 5 fertile eggs so I'll gather those numbers tomorrow to save and open some more eggs tomorrow night. I put the bands on all the hens when they came in to roost tonight.
What should I use to mark eggs with? I don't want to use something to harm the eggs.
My rooster is a Buff orpington and I have some Black australorp hens. Would it make sense to hatch any of those eggs?

katsdar, that SVB just may be workin!

So my hatch is STILL going .. ... . .... ..

LOL.

The bantams didn't do a day 18 hatch, they decided 20/21 seemed more appropriate. So it just seems like I've been locked down for EVER I guess.

Anyway, one Brahma is out and appears by stance to be a cockerel- so big and cute!! Two MFD out also, one of which seems cockerel-esque. The other two seem to be pullets.

One Brahma and one MFD egg to go. Brahma has a nice pip. The MFD has a crack running almost the entire length of the egg with a tiny bit of sheen in one spot where it looks like it leaked, but the egg is still rocking so I'm just letting it ride. :)

Could put a board the size of that one in front of the tote across the front to block some of the hole. Could keep them from getting so much of the shaving out. I have seen my hens squeeze under something that was 2-3 inches off the ground to lay so they can fit in places you would never believe.
I've thought about adding another board. With the way it's sitting you can't tell it really, but I left 4" of the lid as a lip on the bottom.

was nice to meet you, and find out you're the son and nephew of some dear old friends of mine!

All but the split mfd egg have hatched. That one I started to help but it hasn't absorbed the veins yet. Strange. Anyway I tried something new.. Covered the exposed membrane with wet cotton balls, wrapped with Saran Wrap and taped around it, leaving a gap where its beak is poking out. I think I'm at least giving it the best chance! :) We'll see how it goes. I don't get off til seven at least.. Gah!

Good luck, little chick! I'm sure she'll be fine. Sure is stressful to be away from them for so long though!

I can move my arms! 95% of pain is gone. Took about 5 days for the pain from the shots to go away, but I'm good now, for a while at least. I'll take it. First time since May without constant issues.
Now, related to the birds, I hate that they're confined to the coop and enclosed run. They have plenty of room, but really liked it better when they could run around freely in a 576 sqft yard. Can I count on that hawk to be back? Even though Stanley scared it off? We will be winding more metered line over the areas where there was a breach.

Does anyone have purebred hatching eggs? I think I may have a broody!
My ameraucanas are squatting but haven't started laying yet and one of my layers may want eggs!
