Hey Ya'll! it's be almost SEVEN MONTHS since I've been on this site! How's everyone doing?? Life has been hectic as all get out lately! I hope you guys don't mind a short summary! last fall we had to move very quickly, and unplanned.... try doing that with 4 dogs, 5 cats, 20 chickens, and 4 ducks! heck yeah! it was a blast! not short of a miracle, we did it, and moved all the chicken coops with us too. All the chickens are settling down in their new home, and we are down to only 15 chickens, and 3 duckies. ( someone made really good duck gumbo). The chickens have all decided to start laying, and with life settling down, I can now make them and my other hobbies a larger part of my life! Multiple other unfortunate events have happened in this time period, and I just haven't had time for the things that I actually love, but that's finally changing, and it's good to be back! Also in the front is the development of FINALLY convincing a certain someone that we didn't have QUITE enough animals, and a bunny will soon be joining the family. :D . Any suggestions on large docile breeds, and how to use them on a hobby farm? (other than meat. I can kill an ugly rooster....not the fluffy bunny). Anyways! sorry for the long post, but I'm sure happy to be back!
Yay for bunnies! You could try contacting the GA Houserabbit Society about adopting. I think the GA Chapter is in Marietta but thier website has all the info. And if you're looking for great food/hay, Small Pet Select's products are awesome. Super fresh compared to the stuff sitting on store shelves. It's shipped direct. I did the math & it works out to be only a couple bucks more than big box stores, but the quality is unbeatable. Lucille nearly takes my hand off when I go to put the pellets in her bowl. Nice to see you back!

That's me. I had a Dad and his young daughter come by to pick up a couple roosters I needed to rehome. I have chicken fence up that keeps all the chickens to one side (sometimes). From the opposite side they could see my houses well enough and my grazing flock. I have been very lucky not to have any health issues with my birds and I want to keep it that way.

Good for you! I saw a TV program where the visitors had to leave their vehicles in a certain area & wear shoe coverings before they could visit the chicken yard to prevent possible contamination.

I forgot to update y'all on the Saran Wrap chick! Got home last night and unwrapped it. The cotton had held its moisture just perfect! The only place baby was dried was right around its beak where there was nothing moist.

Anyway, got all the shell off (baby was malpositioned but otherwise seemed normal).. It had absorbed all the blood from the veins BUT when the shell was off its umbulicus started bleeding. Not a ton but I knew it didn't take much. So, I put a little pressure on it for a minute and got it back to the bator. It was very weak.

Here's what I found this morning!

It's super bouncy and sassy so it should be good. It does have one foot a little messed up so I'll watch that- I'm thinking from how it was stuck in the egg..? Anyway, that's the story. :)
