Just throwing it out there but I got enough to do around my place to keep several retired guys busy. Feel free to fill your spare time there.![]()

My first hatch of 42 eggs is now on lockdown as of today! Now we wait and hope for a good hatch!![]()
Oh man, those would be fantastic brooders!
I'm bummed at the moment.
Went out this morning to check on/feed the 26 babies who are 1 week and 2 weeks old.
They are in their brooder box,in my feed room of the coop, with a heat lamp on top of the wire lid.
Lamp was still warm, the stuff over the other end was still there, but those babies were COLD!
Lost one of daughter's Lavender Ameraucanas, and 3 of my 5 Welsummers look a bit wobbly.
I gave them some Poultry Nutridrench, added a second heat lamp, and moved the brooder box inside. Changed the shavings and fresh food and water.
Hoping the others didn't get too chilled for too long.
Most are eating and drinking up a storm now.
That's great!! So the lamp went out, right? I've been thinking about putting a heat lamp on each end of my long brooder during these frigid nights.. In case one goes out hopefully the other wouldn't.. However for now I have mine in the house too. :/Better news. The babies all seem to have perked back up and are eating and chirping softly.
They really look great.
But wow! 25 is too many to have inside!
I have chicks in the garage that are about to be booted outside ... but they are a few weeks old and have a great set-up to go out to.That's great!! So the lamp went out, right?
