YO GEORGIANS! :)

We've been trying an experiment. Our water feeders and auto-water nipple systems have been freezing every day so we took one of our 5 gallon nipple water buckets and put a fish tank heater in it. We were thinking it would just be too cold and the small heater would burn up trying to keep the water from freezing, but it has lasted for this past week so far! Keeps the water nice and warm. Chickens and ducks really happy! Wonder how long the heater will last? Hopefully, it will last until it warms up!

Just moved my two co-parenting moms into the garage. They have been sharing the same nest box and eggs for most of the time.

Chicks are due Tuesday but have already pipped internally.

Anybody near me with cheap, young RIRs? Have a friend looking for some about to start laying or just beginning.

I put 37 eggs in the incubator last Sunday and candled today. I had 12 infertile eggs and 25 little dancing embryos. Chester is looking after 20 hens and the 12 infertile eggs came from 3 hens so he's doing a fair job I guess. I'll add 17 more tomorrow from the hens I know were fertile this week.

I've been using those all winter. Plugged them into a thermocube and insulated the buckets also. As long as you keep a couple inches of water above the heater it should be good.
